so ive been seeing all the posts about the gotts mod and from what ive read it increases the amount of air taken in by your air intake but im a little shady on the benefits of doing this mod can someone help?

people insist that this mod does increase their mileage 1-2mpg. i've yet to complete mine since i neglected to run a small piece of pipe to the round opening at edge of fender where the "cool" air is.

you can half a$$ it and it'll look half a$$ but i've seen some that look almost factory. Certainly none have the wow factor of the K&N type cia units but those, in my opinion, are only for those who want to add a little horsepower at a modest cost. I say modest because they are several hundred bucks (gotts mod around $15-20) and the mpg savings one might get from a K&N will probably never outweigh the initial cost of unit.

I did this mod a few weeks ago on my '01 w/5.4. I feel absolutely no gain with the butt dyno, and see no improvement on the time slip from the track .... it still runs within a few hundreths of what it did w/out. So far only one tank thru it and I saw absolutely no improvement ... I'll give a few more tanks before I make my final judgement.

Cool, someone else that races their expedition!

Running your vehicle at the track is a great way to monitor increases or decrease from "performance" mods.

Yea it's cheaper than my Chevelle (10.63@128 w/9700' D/A) for the regular friday night club races .... granted it only runs 19.60s ... but it's deadly consistent!

I'm having a hard time seeing the worth of a lot of performance mods. right now i'm getting around 20 mpg on the hwy @ 66-67 mph (No traffic) i work the night shift. I just set the cruise control and roll in. unless something is gonna give me a extra 2-3 mpg i don't see the point.

When I picked up my edge programmer, I picked up an mpg or two.
But the main reason that I got it was to improve the shifting to save the trans from wear.

You would have to drive a lot of miles to pay off the programmer if you just bought it for the mpg increase.

Near as I can gather it's a popular mod because of three things alone; it's dirt cheap (pennies, but who's counting), easy to perform without special skills or tools, and has a noticable change ( some can hear intake noise easier ).

I have yet to see any definitive number to show any actual, measurable performance increase - either on fuel consumption or engine power/torque. I very strongly suspect that any actual improvements that may exist are too small to actually be measured.
