I have pulled the tranny on my mustang many times but it is a different animal and does not have a transfer case hanging on the back.

I would like to hear from those that have pulled the tranny in their expy. I am curious of time and work involved. I would appreciate any tips or suggestions. Its also nice to hear from those that have been there done that.

I plan to start adding more boost and want to have my tranny rebuilt to hold up to it.

Haven't pulled the tranny yet, but I pulled the t-case off in May. I think it would be just as easy to pull it as one unit, but for the t-case, you have to take one of the cross members off, a wire harness, driveshafts, and 6 bolts connecting the t-case to tranny. Not really a big deal, but time consuming the first time taking it off and it went in like a breeze. I'm a little bigger than alaskan (240) and I handled it fine by myself.

If you were to pull it all off as one piece like I'll be doing next summer, I would look into taking the exhaust off, then with the cross member off and all connections, it should just come straight down with the assistance of a jack... unless you feel like feeling young again :) lol

It took me about 2 hours to put the truck on stands and pull the t-case, but I could probably do it in half that next time if that helps you figure out time any better.

invest in a transmission socket exstension... 1/2 for the impact gun and 3/8 on the other for extra clearance and about 55" long.. really saves some time..

but like said above pull the drive shafts, wire harness, and pull the 6 bolts holding the transfer case on really not that heavy slide it off and set aside

I thought next to a Bronco II it was the worst designed undercarriage I have ever had to work on.

Course half my delay was figuring out what had to come out; trying to take the exhaust out nice, cut it, do the ditch the second cat mod while you are in there, life will be less painful, will I do another, yes.,. but for a fee.

Some great suggestions. Thanks guys. As far as exhaust thats not a problem. Have custom exhaust installed with some V-band clamps. Save me some headache.

I know what you mean KWT about the long extention. Somewhere I have a photo of my combination of extentions used to make 1 long one that I used to remove my tranny to motor bolts.

I never considered ratchet straps for this application but that sounds like it would work great. And those I have. :)
