Have a 2016 expedition with sync3 . When I try to update software, it sees my neighbors Wi-Fi but not mine. Strong Signal. Are there protocols it cant find?

@Yupster Dog Nailed it...But I will answer 2 things....

Depending on your current version of Sync 3, will effect the WiFi it can see. I could go in to the details, but just not worth it. Doesn't matter. Getting on WiFi for your Gen Sync 3 will accomplish VERY little, if anything at all.

CyanLabs Sync 3 Updater. Download it, install, plug in your current version, build the USB using it, and plug it in your Expedition, get a good book and wait for the install to finish.

Beyond that, do a search on here, and do some reading.

PS - If you are an Apple user you will need a new USB hub to do CarPlay...also can be found by doing a search on here.

You can also use the Ford USB direct method that comes with the map update, I've used it multiple times on my 2017 with no issues after having grief trying to do it via WiFi

But that will only take you so far. The hardware supports further. As a 2016 Ford will limit it even more. With the older APIM in the 16/17, you can do all the map updates via Cyanlabs also. Free of charge.

Why is it that / how is it that Cyanlabs offers the map updates for free? How do they make their money?

Do they or anyone else offer map updates for 2011 Expy? Ford stopped years ago.

They don’t make money. They offer the tool for free. This is well documented and has been discussed in multiple threads.

No on the 2011, at least I am not aware of.
