I've never had a windshield on any vehicle replaced, just looking for advice about the best route to take. My deductible is $250 on comprehensive, so it looks like this will be out of pocket. Safe-lite wants $209+tax to do it. Is there a more efficient route to take?

I'm not even sure what happened... there were no cracks/chips or anything in the glass... it snowed a couple of inches last friday, I drove to work, after the snow melted I noticed a huge crack (About 18 inches) across the top of the windshield on the passenger side. The only thing that I can think of is that the host defrost & snow covered windshield didn't mix.

Seems reasonable to me.

One word of warning. I have been told they use a water jet sometimes to cut the seal. Not supposed to be much water but if any gets behind the dash it could find its way into the gem module. Might want to check the wiring harness that leads into the gem for any moisture afterwards.

I had gem module issue shortly after having my windshield replaced. But at the same time we had torrential downpours shortly before the issues as well so never really certain of the cause but water did end up in the gem/fuse block.

you can talk to someone and see if they can do it on the side for you...buy the windshield then pay them personally...a hook-up

i have to replace each of my trucks windshields yearly. we use alot of gravel on the roads in the winter.

i pay out of pocket, i've been able to get them installed for $160-200 and i feel thats reasonable.

Ive had 2 put in my Navi in last year. ( bought it with a lil crack but failed inspection then got another crack 2-3 weeks after windshield was out in).

But both my windshields cost $130 installed. Everyone in town was between $130-$160. So $200 plus is pretty high sounding to me.

Thanks guys... I'll look into local businesses vs safe-lite and see if they're any cheaper.
