I think I have version 2.0, that's what the Ford Owner site says. I'll check tomorrow and post here. (You can always take it to the dealer and they will do the update at no charge.)

Yes my screen looks similar to that, I have some different apps.

I get messages but I have never tried the maps because I have Navigation. (I was really hoping that Waze would work because we put that on the iPad and use that for navigation because of knowing where the trouble spots are, and where the cops are sitting.)

This is what the Ford Owner site said:

Date Confirmed: Dec 15, 2016
Version:SYNC3 v2.0
Hide details
HB5T-14G381-AJ
The new version contains the following updates:

  • Updated voice recognition engine.
  • Bluetooth phone, media, and Wi-Fi improvements.
  • Navigation user interface improvements (if equipped).
  • Android Auto for supported devices.
  • Apple CarPlay for supported devices with hardware upgrade.

Ford is not updating any 16's from 1.0/1.1 to 2.0/2.2 that I am aware of at this time. Not sure what they are waiting for. Lots of talk on the F-150 and Edge Forums about it. A guy named Jason has access to the updates and has shared installs that will do the update. 2.2 is technically the highest, and what the newest Fords coming from the factory have installed. Anything 2.0 and above supports AA and CarPlay. CarPlay requires a USB hub with a certain Apple certified Hub. Most 16's, at least Mustangs, and Edge's that I am aware of for sure need to swap the Hub to get CarPlay. It makes sense that the 16 Expedition would be the same.

I have the install files to take any 1.0/1.1/2.0 to 2.2 if anybody needs it. I worked with Jason on testing the install. I have done several friends with no issue.

Thanks for the info LokiWolf. I'm going to check my version number today and see if it is at 2.0 I'll see if I can update it through WIFI. My build date is 12/15/16.

No updates OTA for Ford vehicles that I have heard. Some Lincoln owners have reported OTA, but no fords that I have heard about. Delivery system is there, but ford is holding back. If you have a 17, you have 2.0 or above, and a compatible Hub.

I just talked to Sync chat, and they said that 2.2 hasn't been released for my vehicle. I have the compatible hub and I can access the apps on my phone when I'm plugged in. I can use Siri over Bluetooth.

Yep, Exactly what I said. Sync Chat Honestly knows less than many of us about their own product. I have done more Updates and more research than the 3 dealers I have talked to about it. 2.2 WILL install on your vehicle, as it is installed on my Wife's 17 Limited EL, and 2 friends Expeditions. You just need a flash drive 2GB or more, and a download link. With that said, going from 2.0 to 2.2, only gains You small tweaks in the interface and nothing significant.

2016 Edges did not have a hub that had the Apple certified chip in them. I swapped my hub for a supported one. My guess would be that the 16 Expy is the same way. If you are at 2.0, you have the software level you need. Verify you see Android Auto in the Settings menu. Do you see a CarPlay icon beside it, if not, your hub doesn't support it, and will need to be swapped.

Where do I find this upgraded hub. Mine won't go past 1.0. I really had thought by watching videos and entering my year and model in on the syncmyride website that it showed Carplay was available. I would of got a 2017 if I had known that. Argh. Sometimes I hate technology. LOL
