On one YouTube video, they unbolted the lower control arm from the frame, then bolted the strut on. I've done this with a control arm and a spring on a Chevy before.

Thank you, I'll look for some video of this.
I've turned many a wrench in my time but I have not messed with heavy duty suspension before this. So I'm having to overcome my lack of experience. I'll have time for a second attempt in the next couple of days.

I've never disconnected a lower arm from the frame in a strut setting. But, I think if you have a strut compressor on, bolt on the strut to the arm, then bolt the arm to the frame, this might work.
