If I want to wipe the floor, I'll just run the cobra. But a 650rwhp expy would be a nice sleeper.

03-04 have 2 valve with around 250hp
05-up have 3 valve with 300hp

correct me if im wrong but isnt it
97/98 230hp
99-02 260hp
03/04 260hp
05-08 300hp
09-12 310hp

if you dont care that the 97/98 expedition is by far the best looking LOL (and have the better T-case of the 1st gens) and if you dont care that 03+ 2nd gens have IRS, then I would for sure go with the newest model your budget will allow.
In 09 they changed the head & spark plug design and Ford recomends the spark plugs be changed at 100,000miles (which is awesome) If I were to buy another expedition it would be an 09+... 310hp stock with 365Ft-Lbs those things move pretty good.

Long story short 3v all the way

I was just shooting from the hip on the hp #'s

I do like the looks of the 1st gen but the wife likes how 2nd and 3rd gens handle with the IRS.

More than likely we will end up with an 05-06 with 80-110k miles. Those seem to be right in our budget for paying cash. I like the extra 40hp gained with the 3V. Right after I sold my 400rwhp Mustang I had big plans to make a sleeper Expy. After pricing things out it's just not worth the money to me. I would rather save to buy a new 5.0 in few years.

Once we find the right one I will order a leveling kit and Magnaflow 3" catback the same day I bring it home. Then some 285/70/17's, CAI and a tuner. That will complete the mods I have planned for the family truck.

There's an 06 KR with 109,000 miles not too far from me listed for $15900. If its still around in a couple weeks I may drive over and offer the dealer $12000.

Very tempted to go check out the White Limited in Redwood Falls. Too bad its a couple hours away.

Stopped by AM Auto and checked out an 05 Black Limited on the way to work. Pretty clean but no HD tow package.

I had both. Just sold my '97 that I put 210K on and have a 48K, '05 3 valve now. My '97 never blew out plugs 'cause I did them myself. The '05 gets better mileage and lots more power (70 HP more). '97 had more ground clearance and towed better with the solid rear and LSD. The '05 handles and rides better with the IRS, but no LSD. Both are 3.73's. IMHO, styling of '97 more round, curvy and feminine. Melted bar of soap design of the times. '05 looks more masculine to me.
Too early to tell, but so far I've had better 4 wheel drive experience with the '97, never having a scary moment like my '05. Probably due to lack of LSD and less ground clearance. And also because the '05 came with two crappy sets of winter and summer tires compared to the year round Revos I always ran on the '97. Even though they are both XLT's, the '05 lacks the cubbyholes, amount of cup holders and sunglass holders of the '97. But, you can't beat the '05's fold down 3rd seat and more, up to date electronics. I only hope the '05 can measure up and better the '97 for reliability and longevity. I don't look forward to the spark plug job.
'Hope this helps you decide.

Thanks. I like hearing about Expeditions that made it above 200k miles since we are looking at ones with 80-110K.

Either the 2V or 3V sound nice to me since my Navigator's 4V requires premium gas. I used to own a Lincoln Mark LT with the 3V. I really miss that truck but I don't miss having a car payment.

That looks like a 2 valve 2nd gen. Lots more speed equipment for 2V's, but it would be nice to have a supercharger available for the 3V. I know they have a few, Edelbrock, Rousch and Whipple, for 3V, 4.6 Mustang.
