Ford motorsport high volume oil pump used as original equipment in the dohc cobras.

Ford Racing High Volume 4.6 and 5.4 Oil Pump - 2V 4V with Pickup Tube

If you have money burning a hole in your pocket...

Melling 10227 Melling Select Oil Pumps & Pickups

There may be some fitment issues with the above pumps. Lightning owners have used them but may have had to modify the pick-up. Your going to have to remove the oil pan as well to get to the pick up as these use larger diameter pick up tubes.

You could PM tasca and ask for GT 500 oil pump. Many of the lightning guys use this pump and it is inexpensive.

Have not done the mod myself so I cannot promise there will be no fitment issues with the pickup. :(

The oil pump mounts over the crank snout on the front of the motor. Only the pickup goes down into the oil pan. You can see it in the lower photo. It is installed over the crank before the lower timing chain gears.

I have the Melling pump in my Cobra. I got it off ebay from a company not too far north of me. It was about half the price of everyone else. That being said I wouldn't bother with the Melling. I only went with is because I built a stroker motor that I intended to spin high and drive a supercharger. A lot of the Mustang guys run the DOHC pump with no issues. Granted that's the 4.6 based motors. I'm not sure how much different there is between the 4.6 and 5.4 blocks.

@ Baker

Just so you know the GT500 has a 5.4 block thats why I mentioned it in the above post and many in the lightning community have used it. The lightning block is identical to the 5.4 expy. I would say it has the best odds of fitting without modification.

Let's talk Oil Pumps - Lightning Forum | LightningRodder.com

You will see many went with the Melling but they have much $$ invested in their motors. Think it would be overkill in a high milage expy.

I build a lof of 5.4 and its pretty smart tom reccomend you check it. THe ford motorsport kits works great in the 5.4. It actually has a much larger pickup than the standard 5.4 motor. YOU DO have to clearance the scrapers on the pickup tube(bend them out) when you install it, as they are setup for 4.6 stroke the 5.4 rods will hit them if you dont, ALSO the HV pump can and will suck the pan dry quickly. ITs crucial that you do not run the engine low on oil! if you do the pump will cavitate and eventually cause premature bearing failure.
