Bought last fall with 23K miles, now have 33K miles, has all options. No issues everything works perfectly. Premium Ford extended warranty is $2K to $2,400 from Ford dealer with $100 deductible. Didn't buy it originally but now having second thoughts. With all of the electronics and options on this vehicle I'm concerned with what may go wrong after the bumper to bumper is up. Worth the money or not?

How many miles/years are covered at that price? You're not likely to have anything particularly expensive pop up in the next 12K/1 year if that's what it covers. In a couple years though and as you approach the 75K mark, you're likely to start having some issues with the electronics/options. Between 80K-95K I've had $7-8K worth of parts/labor (95% electronics/options) - all of which was covered under Ford's premium extended warranty (picked up the truck as a CPO with ~78K on it). I had to fight tooth and nail to get most covered items repaired though, so be prepared for that. Every warranty repair you get done cuts into their profits.

I believe it was 7 years and 100K or 120K miles. Vehicle originally put in service July 2014. When I bought it in Oct 2015 it had 23K miles and was a Ford private leased vehicle. I only drive about 15 K miles per year or less. Keep hearing about power running boards, windows, seats and electronics going out and how expensive these items are.

Make sure you get the premium coverage if you do it. I only got the ESP I believe its called and that only covers drive train components. My bad because I now have moon roof track issues and its not covered. I also don't think that's a bad price to pay for the coverage depending on years and mileage it will extend to.

Cross the bridge when you get there. Just enjoy your ride. Invest in repair manuals and necessary tools if you're into DIY. And learn how electronics in your truck works.

I wouldn't buy it... And you still have the balance of the 5 year 60K mile factory powertrain warranty.

If you do decide to get the warranty, shop around. The warranty price is set at the dealer level so one dealer may charge considerably more or less than another for the same warranty. For example, CPO fees can vary from $0 to $2,000 from one dealer to the next and you're getting the same 12K/1y regardless of whether you paid $0 or $2K.

I hear you about shopping around. One dealer wanted $2400 for the 7 year 100k with $100 deductible and another wanted $1945 for the same coverage. I work on my own 60's era classic car but these new vehicles are intimidating with all of the electronics and high costs of OEM parts.

I bought the 2014 limited with the HD Towing package in order to be able to tow a open car trailer. And I figured since the 2014 was the last of the of the model run using the V8 Ford should have most of the bugs worked out. My dad once told me never to buy the first year of the model / technology change, much better to buy at the end of that model. He was a career journeyman tool and die maker UAW auto industry and had seen numerous changes / quick fixes / cover-up's in the industry during model changes and retooling. He always said it takes a couple of years of real world testing to get everything worked out on a new model.

Solid advice. If you research the 3rd gens a bit you'll find there were a lot more issues with the '07-'08 models then '09 on. There are, however, still some issues that just seem to be inherent to the 5.4L such as cam lifters, VCT solenoids and timing related components. Unfortunately, most of these are almost certain to occur after 100K.
