I planned on buying new in 2015.I did plenty of research, talked to F150 owners and got feedback from salesman. I found most leasers do not care about the engine. 65% of F150's sold have the 3.5ltt. 700,000 on the road. It is $2,395 more than 5.0l. Salesman say customers have a concern/distrust of Eco-boost. It is #1 issue with trucks. Ford's use of rebates, is what has helped sales on the EB. Expedition are not selling well. The dealer had no flyers to give out and only one Platinum model on lot $75K(wow!). Owners with problems, have had big problems. Bad motors, turbos, Timing chain issue, carbon/sputtering issue, white smoke and rough idle. Many that like/love it, are not seeing fuel savings and complain. Sales of extended warranty have gone up, for Ford trucks and resale down.
I agree with the mistrust issue. In 2012 when I purchased my F-150 FX4, I figured that the only engine worthy of off-road was the V8. My reasoning behind this was the displacement necessary for engine-brake going down steep slopes. I also figured that a larger engine would work less to turn out the same about of power. Seemed obvious to me at the time. BUT! (Wait for it...)
Speaking to colleagues who had the 3.5 TT in the F-150, they raved about the engine in every respect. Some had over 150,000 miles on a relatively new pick-up (we drive a lot out here, nothing is close). Of all the 3.5 TT owners, none had any mechanical problems at all. When I test drove a 2017 Expedition in anticipation of my recent purchase, I was floored (no pun intended) at the power and smoothness of the Expedition. So I bought one.
Why are you being so negative when so many other who OWN one of these fine vehicle are so positive?? I makes no sense to me.
I come from old school "no replacement for displacement", but even us old guys can adapt and learn. As I said earlier, try it. you'll like it!!
As for the negative things you say about the TT, this is news to me. Where I live, everyone has an SUV or pick-up for towing or off-road. I have heard nothing like what you state. Where do you get your information from??
