I thought 1st gens actually had the lowest ground clearance thanks to the live axle hanging out back
The pumpkin is lowest point. In deep snow, it leaves a mark. In 2003 Ford switched to controversial, Independent rear end setup. That is why, you see similar ground clearance. I was referring to body height. Bottom of door to ground, top of tire to fender. The original UN93 body shared F150 parts. It was more truck like. In 2003, designers lowered the body. The main reason, was to accommodate, short, women drivers and children. The hope was to sell more, but sales dropped. People that love and drove the 1st gen, preferred the original setup, including women. The 2018 is proof, Ford has further departed from the original design.

Damn. Good thing we have capable vehicles. I thought I could finally escape the potholes... :favorites68:

Nope.

I went offroad and on a "former US highway" (trapezoidal gravel thingie) in the Kentucky Bend (population 18, ten or so of whom were encountered at 6am on the riverbank with beers boats on trailers and a few thousand shotgun shells) jn a frikkin rental Altima that was beat to hell a couple years back...and that was a LOT smoother and easier to navigate than Downtown Los Angeles lol

Well except that time I almost sank the Altima in some Mississippi mud, barely wiggled that CVT nonsense out.... no mud here, too dry lol

How do you find these former US highways on a map? I'd love to go check one of those out. Also, are you in downtown (with the skyscrapers) or just in the LA county? It's huge!

"Truck Like" is a very loose term... it could be argued the 3rd gen is the most Truck like to date. I mean it shares the Super Dutys interior (These don't have a F150 interior it's actually the Super Duty interior). They have the Highest towing and payload capacity of them all to date and the 5.4 Triton/3.5 Ecoboost with the 6 speed found in the F150. GM has used front independent suspensions in their trucks for years doesn't mean it's not a truck.

Im in the next county over, but often in downtown for work.

Skyscrapers? Lol... LA is a low rise suburban sprawl with about 15-20 mediumhigh rise buildings total... all of which are so rare as to be known by name or nickname

Let's just put it this way: downtown CHARLOTTE NC (pop 800k) looks a helluva lot more cosmopolitan and manages to impress

Forget Tokyo or HK, even Moscow Russia would have your average LA native feeling small and insecure and gawking like a country bumpkin

Dunno, really... I was on a 48 state trip, running behind schedule due to technical issues with the rental POS, and looking for a shortcut to cross off Kentucky....

Was running a downloaded hiend Android maps app called "Offline Navigation", thats got gigs and gigs of detailed maps, waypoint capabilities, tons of options, altitudes coordinates and even info on what satellites its running off... not sure if its a general android feature or a premium samsung galaxy s thing, but in large chunks of middle of nowhere USA like northern nevada, it was actually running off GLONASS (Soviet military birds) satnav not GPS lol

Ford is going to offer a 2018 Expedition FX4. It is for the 10% of buyers who, actually drive it like a truck. The Super Duty doesn't have the "knob" shift selector, built in wifi, 10 USB ports and flat screen in back of seats. The reason towing payload is up, is from lighter aluminum body and 6 cyl engine. They simply added the weight savings to towing capacity.

I'm talking 2007-2017 interior it shares the Super Duty front dashboard and headliner and seats it's all the same other than a Super Duty stamp in the glovebox and a non column shifter. You're barking up the wrong tree about the 6 cyl engine... I'm not a fan either Ford should be investing in making their V8s fuel efficient because they can't be beat on longevity. There are a lot of guys with half a million miles on their 6.2 V8s and Modular V8s you can't beat that with a small turbocharged engine it's beyond its realm of limitations, at least on this planet. The best thing for the environment is what car makers hate: vehicles that last a long time that don't have to be replaced by expending energy to create new ones. One 20 year old expy with a V8 that lasts has less environmental impact than the three small turbo engines it takes to equal the life of one large displacement engine. Yep the tree huggers keep buying those brand new priuses every year that harm the environment more than a 8100 Vortec chevy truck.

How do you like those gears? I've really been considering those. Did it change your mileage?
I love the extra get up a go from a stand still and it gave me better gas mileage until I put on bigger tires. You will also need to get a device that will change your truck's computer so your speedometer will read the correct speed.
