2016 side exit exhaust (rear muffler delete)

I’ve been seeing tons of ‘18’s here in Ann Arbor and I have to agree. They are not trucks any more they are weird crossover looking SUV’s.

I have a pair of what looks like channel lock pliers and it has what appears to be a length of chain saw blade attached to one arm and a loop to catch a linkage of that chain on the another. I think they came from Harbour Freight, maybe $20. Pretty much wore them out after one cut, but no sparks, got into a place where a saws-all couldn't and made a nice cut.

What would they charge to custom bend a bit of pipe to replace it from the factory clamp down? Return that elbow and just do that?

My brother-in-law owns a muffler shop… maybe I'll ask him.

Would’ve been $150 at this shop. I even asked if they could just bend the pipe for me and I’ll mess with the clamp but they said they wouldn’t. Sketchy place anyways

I hate to be the downer, but there are a couple of issues you should consider before ripping part of the factory exhaust off of a $60K truck because you don't like how it looks. Maybe you already have.

The tubing used by Ford is real good stuff. Hey, it's a $60K truck!. The stuff you by at AutoBarn and that Wagner uses is high-carbon junk. It rots out fast, I've had it turn to trash in 18 months, while the Ford stuff is still solid after 18 years.

Ford installs the huge resonator to mute the Eco-boost motor that otherwise sounds like a little girl's sewing machine. They know folks putting down real dough like how a V-8 sounds or don't like how a little six sounds. Want your Expedition to make like a souped-up Honda? Go for it.

Just tread with caution and consider these thoughts if you haven't already. And good luck with it. Let me know how it sounds and how it works.

I’m just talking about the small one on the rear of the truck under the bumper. Not the 3’ long one under the truck. Think that back one would actually change the sound that much? I know the long one would but didn’t think the short one would. And the piece of pipe I purchased was $30 pretty sure it’s not junk but I returned that already

You could get a sample of the sound by taking it off at the clamp. I would never drive with it like that because it will kill you but you could run it in your driveway for a minute with the windows open to listen to the difference.

I took it off not too long ago and ran it. No difference at all.
I will probably do the same thing but I’ll buy a quality chrome tip for it and weld it myself. I own a mig welder.
I don’t think it’s a bad idea what you are trying to do just use quality galvanized pipe or tip.
I think The welding shop is trying to get rich out of simple weld job.

I’ll give you that one was good.

I went from a modded Coyote-powered F-150 with long tubes, no cats, a dual-in/dual-out box resonator, with no mufflers, that was dumped before the rear axle; to my Ecoboost-powered Expedition that has a 4” bullet muffler in place of that gigantic box on it. Doesn’t sound like a ricer at all. Mostly because you still can’t hear it from the only place that matters: the driver’s seat

The power increase going from the Coyote to the EB makes the exhaust note a moot point.

The tubing they use is aluminized steel which is the same thing you buy from the auto parts store. That stuff won’t rot. And he’s talking about removing the small muffler at the end. It’s nothing more than a resonator and won’t change the sound by much if at all

Alrighty fellas! Today was the day. Loosened the clamp up above the suspension and took off the rear muffler.Next bought a $20 piece of 3” ID to 3” OD 45 degree pipe and clamped her on
Dumps right behind the wheel. Might extend it a little and secure with universal exhaust hangerSounds ALOT better too which I’m surprised. Little throaty

Sounds good! So you're running with no muffler? I was kind of expecting it to be much louder without a muffler... I like it!
