Does the rear roof spoiler keep the rear of the truck cleaner?

Many of you know this has been bandied around for some time....the fact that dirt seems to accumulate on the rear of the earlier gen Expys at a much higher rate than most other full sized suvs. There has been discussion on whether the dirt is being pulled upwards via negative pressure behind the truck in motion to not having a spoiler to "wash" the rear of the truck with a stream of air.

So, does that spoiler help or not?

Nope to me it makes it dirtier esp when trying to clean it because the dirty water drips from in onto the bumper. But thats just me. One thing i do appreciate is theres nomore rain run off onto the hood like the previous gen would do lol.

I'm a little surprised that out of 120 views, well, thanks DL...I can see the drip being a pain when washing but I guess it answers my overall question because had it been a big change, I'm sure more would have jumped up to say so.

I'm not sure what you mean by "no more rain run off onto the hood"??

When it would rain, in situations where my nav wpuld dive like braking or going down a hill etc, the water would run off to the front like a cascade down the windahield and onto the hood. It would be annoying sometimes because the auto wipers wouldnt register it and wouldnt speed up.

For me, this is really only a problem in the winter with really wet roads and all the gravel/sand/etc. that gets sprayed up. So, you're just a few months too early! Or, maybe, I got my Expy a few months too late...

So by the time I can answer this, the answer will likely no longer be useful...

LOL....we've had around a week of solid rain here and of course I had washed my truck two days prior.....it's not winter but my truck is darn dirty, mostly on the rear!

i washed mine last week, clean as a whistle.
had to go up to the front gate and work on the computer opening system, less than 10 minutes i was done.
walked out and had purple bird crap all over my hood and windows ...
even hit the door handle.......

Cannot speak to the gen 4 Exp, and probably not even close to an apples-to-apples comparison, but we have a 2015 Explorer Sport that has the same aero treatments as the gen 4 Exp. Based on how the view from the backup camera degrades in wet conditions versus dry, I would say the rear spoiler seems to increase the amount of dirt that accumulates on the rear lift gate.

Lets think back to the station wagons of the 70's.... The rear wing thing was great at keeping air moving over the rear of the car and thus keeping the back end clean ... cleaner than without. I installed one on my 1983 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer back in the day and it worked great! Another item that worked to keep the truck clean was a front bug deflector. Anyone remember those?
