Even with the navigation it wont play DVD's. It a huge liability issue if Ford allowed that. Distracted driving is bad enough with cell phones.

Thats what IPads are for. Uh...a friend told me.
I used to have head unit that was just a knockout for functionality. It had video inputs, 3 video outputs (RCA), DVD, MPeg, rear camera input, and a really nice Nav system. And for a year, it was great. Then the screen blacked out. Still funcitonal as a touchscreen, just no image.

First thing I did with our '12 KR was to install a Lockpick in the vehicle. Enter information into GPS while in motion, turn on rear camera while driving to check on the trailer I'm pulling, and co pilot can watch a movie or a tv episode while I'm driving. Great unit, not a bit of problem with it since purchase

This has been my biggest complaint with all GPS gear, whether in our Expy or the TomTom we use in our pickup. Wifey is the co-pilot and navigator and it gripes me to have to stop so SHE can make changes in our route. The TomTom will now (I guess after the latest software upgrade) allow the person fiddling with it to say "I'm not the driver" (an obvious CYA by TomTom) and make necessary changes while under way.

Only on the Sync 3 Trucks, and at the expense of E911 and Travel Link features.
Which makes no sense. And that means it’s intentional

The years they list are incorrect. They say it is for any My Touch Sync System. That for example in the Edge does not go past 2015, yet they list to 2017. The 2016 and 2017 are Sync 3. It appears based on reading only applies to the Microsoft based Sync Systems, so NOT Sync 3 which is based on QNX.
Not intentional, sort of. There is no specific setting to enable it. The setting has in this case, desired side effect of allowing it. Basically it puts the unit in European locality mode, because it also changes the speed limit signs.
E911 is a feature I am not willing to lose. When the a lady cut in front of my wife when she was traveling 45, and wrecked, totaling our 2015 Expy. The System initiated the call to 911, before she was completely aware of what had happened. She was OK, and only had bumps and bruises. It could have been so much worse. The system did its job. For the safety of my family, it is not a feature I am willing to lose.

Rex your link only shows Lockpick up to 2013. Based on Loki's note it appears Lockpick is not an option for my 2017 truck.

In the US, it is a requirement that Nav or anything not be able to distract the driver. People do some really stupid crap while driving. This is an attempt to prevent that. I wish there was just an, “I’m the passenger”, acknowledgement box. But because of our propensity to sue over every little thing, I don’t see it happening.
I had an after market head unit that would not play video if you were in motion, but if you grounded the rear camera wire it would play any video at any speed. The manufacturer provided the instructions
I get it. I did too, 13 years ago. Things aren’t the same anymore.
