Used 3 different tuners over the years of which there are many
several of my vehicles have passed state inspections with the tunes installed
Will never agree with you Blackscreen
Why don't you post on some diesel site where your opinions are more "IN TUNE" with them
Never have replaced parts on my vehicles & do not see any need to do so
chart I added couple of pages back clearly shows the potential without any parts mods
Just reprogrammed them & will continue to do so
Seriously doubt any government (EPA) will shut down all these shops
Purchased a 2018 F150 with 3.5L eco boost 3 days ago & installed Hypertech calibrations
Runs great
5150 pops has chosen the parts route but has still found significant improvements with just the boost a max
BTW
I am not arrogant
Merely state my background when I have done something that people have doubts about indicating I do so preciously because of my background
Not sure why you get your jollies beating up on someone else
adds nothing to the interests of the folks on here interested in a bit more performance & using the full potential of the eco boost engines
Not funny to me:(

BTW have looked on several tuners sites & have seen no evidence they a gong out of business

Notice the underlined......

Your tuners and sites won't ever lead you to believe you won't have support.

That doesn't change the reality that pushing an item manufactured by a supplier and software developer that's literally currently in legal jeopardy of being shutdown is beyond ignorant, it's frankly sad.

Your the only one talking diesel, yet the data you present is the only smoke blowing going on.

So again, you can keep choosing to get offended or post the 4sec 0-60 you said to have achieved.

I highly doubt Jarrold with his new tune will be too happy to call the shop one day and get that lovely, "we're sorry the number you have reached has been disconnected" stuck with a voided vehicle warranty and a tuner that's the equivalent to a paper weight.

For what it's worth, the boost max that 5150 has will create the same low end results the full tune does. Torque is the name of the game. Make the customer feel it harder and faster, and that'll satisfy most.

Well you are entitled to your opinion
Apparently we will never agree on anything
Why do you post on these mod threads anyway??
Why can't you just let those of us who have tuned or otherwise modified their vehicles share their experiences without all the negativity
Do not know what you wish to accomplish other than irritating folks
is that your goal & if so why???

I'm just stoked to see that 4sec 0-60.....

Your the one who keeps bringing feelings and such into it.

So, anyways...... don't be so sensitive.

You both make valid points that should be taken into consideration. I have had several tuned vehicles. I enjoy the extra power plus the vehicle and task specific tuning. But as in everything else there can be excess and it will cause issues. Example, I will not tow my 16k fifth-wheel using the 125hp race tune because I do not want to melt or break things. I also refrain from the higher power tunes since I do not like the smoke so I stay with the lower power tunes which are plenty adequate. Being able to merge with a smile has its benefits. Now, as to what Blackscreen67 says, Take Heed. The EPA is cracking down on the tuner industry especially in the diesel market. In some instances when you buy the tuner it will specify "for off road use only" and they will ask for your vin number. If they do so run, since the vin number will be forwarded to the EPA. The EPA will then forward the vin to the registering state with a note not to renew registration since the vehicle is now off road only. Some diesel tuner manufacturers will sell you the tuner and have you download the tune, which will actually come from Canada to circumvent the EPA issue. I imagine it will get the gas engine tuner industry will not be as impacted as long as the vehicles can be tuned and still meet emissions.

Why can't you just use EGT temps to determine if you are overloading the diesel engine?
Is there some reason you are concerned about overloading the driveline?
I agree that any smoke is just wasting fuel because it is just unburned carbon!!
Some farmers in Iowa (where I am from) use E85 injection in diesels to improve performance
Not an expert on that mod but many of them use it & are happy with the results
Ok Blackscreen did not explain it had something to do with the diesel market
Most quality tunes, exhaust & intake mods to gas eco boost engines will not increase emissions in any state emissions test
Note i say "QUALITY" tuners

BTW 5150 has gotten to a 0-60 mph time of 5.07 seconds
He is just using a boost a max unit & not a quality tune
Do not see why Blackscreen seems to think that sub 5 second 0-60 mph times are not possible with a quality tune

You have to understand I have no desire to argue.

I'm just outlining how industries are moving and what direction to expect things to go.

Derive is the largest software and hardware company by far for many platforms, all it takes is one bag Apple to ruin the bunch as the saying goes.

For what it's worth. I' happy your tuned setup has netted you desirable effects.

@Blackscreen67 Beat it... Your comments are not desired by me and several others on the forum. Pssst. take a hint.

Or at the least, participate in a manor that is to the benefit of everyone on here. Not just to amuse yourself.

Get your head out of the clouds and step off your pedestal Nancy.

Last time I checked your contribution has been.......

Next time speak when spoken to, apparently you were never taught that.

Here's food for thought, I've probably forgotten more about tuning than you have ever learned Schmitty. Ive seen more than my fair share of people grenade their shit by taking bad advice.

I only make a living doing this shit lol.

A good read here
Note they state they are 50 state legal
That smoke from a diesel is wasted fuel which leads to unnecessary EGT temps
http://www.hypertech-inc.com/Articles/2018HypertechCatalog.pdf
Information from a thriving professional company
worked with them in the 80's & provided them with higher flow disc injectors for their grand national tuners
I am sure that Blackscreen will find something he thinks is wrong & go on a tirade :(
But I think the rest of us will find it informative:33:

Smoke cools egts and creates turbo lag due to snuffing out the heat and slowing the turbine.

Is it wasted fuel sure, is there a delicate line between underfueled vs. Over fueled sure. Traditionally speaking excess fuel creates extreme drive and cylinder pressures.

I know plenty of people running 1400+ horsepower daily drivers that can tow a 30ft trailer through the mountains, run a few times down the strip, and then pack up shop and take it on home. If it's tuned right it's not a concern. Then again hypertech, sct, amd bullydog are subpar tuners for diesels.

The best in the biz are from Australia.

If you want to debate diesel you better buckle up.

Volkswagen and Audi TDi's are 50 state legal too technically....

OK Blackscreen we understand you are a self professed diesel tuning expert
That you are a legend in your own mind
So why do you persist in slamming those of us who are not the least bit interested in Diesels
Have no interest in debating diesel tuning
Have no interest in towing a 30 ft trailer with a super duty diesel
But if you persist in slamming eco boost tuning you better buckle up as well
I spent my whole career working with spark ignited engines & I am not about to back down when it comes to eco boost engines
for instance when you state the PCM defuels the eco boost engines, that is technically incorrect
The PCM uses input from several sensors some of which are the map, boost pressure sensor, IAT, ECT, Throttle angle sensor etc.
It may choose to reduce throttle opening & electronic wastegate position to control an overboost condition
That in & of itself reduces boost pressure & consequently reduces injector pulse width
It is correct for diesels which are unthrottled fuel controlled compression ignition engines

BTW we worked with Cummins to offer COP's & other sensors for the engines they have converted to natural gas operation in the states where it is required
Also worked with Waukesha providing sensors & linear o2's for their boosted stationary engines for natural gas

Dude you just made an inaccurate statement on black smoke in diesels. Why is it you're not willimg to look at what you say. I wouldn't be talking about diesel if you wouldn't have talked sideways to something Uturn said.

Guy damn right the factory tuning defuels itself from first gear under WOT.

It's called torque management. It's designed to protect the low gears. I'm not going to it with you.
The 10R80 in the F150 and expedition uses the weakest internals of any vehicle running the 10r80. This includes GM products.

Again, there's the"I'm an engineer".....

They do not defuel the engine without first closing the throttle & modifying the wastegate opening.
That is done along with reducing injector pulsewidth
But the pcm does this (reduced injector pulsewidgth) because of the reduced boost pressure & reduced airflow
That is not defueling
It is torque management but not as you describe it
You may be a diesel expert but the same analogy does not apply to spark ignited throttled engines
Sorry you are wrong

Holy shit..... wow! Ok!

How's that ocean front property out there? I mean clearly there's gotta be some out in your parts. After ll things that are a reality must really be make believe.

Guy, you said Teslas are carbon neutral. That said it all. Interpret as you must, that' on you.

Sorry never said TESLA's are carbon neutral & do not believe they are
Their batteries have to be charged by electricity produced with fossil fuel, nuclear, hydro, wind, solar etc
Note if all that electricity came from Nuclear, wind, hydro or solar that would be carbon neutral as well
Why don't you read the link where a tuner actually presented a very detailed account of what he was able to accomplish
Shows the throttle closed partially even though the accelerator pedal is on the floor
That is true torque management for spark ignited engines & it is not defueling
https://www.f150ecoboost.net/forum/...ance/74060-boostking-s-oem-turbo-project.html

Oh & why don't you quit being such a jerk to everyone else who is on this thread
serves no purpose that I can see except maybe it bolster your ego
Think everyone else on this thread would prefer you just went away
