In case someone else is wondering. There is no external neutral safety switch on 6 speed transmissions. The transmission position selector is inside the transmission itself. That is what my mechanic told me.
As far as the no crank, no start issue (intermittent starting). The problem was with a bad connection on the solenoid which is attached to the starter. Ho did I find out? The truck wasn't starting and I went under and observed that the wire connecting to the bolt was loose. Not that the bolt was loose, but that the connection was wiggling inside the housing. After I wiggled the wire, the truck started. I believe it is the signal wire from the ignition which closes the circuit when the key is turned. I just replaced the entire starter and everything is good now! View attachment 28699
