Some Rear Wiper Options

After some poking around and using some old gift cards...I’ve found three different rear wiper/arm combinations you could choose to use on your Gen3. (These may work on other generations, but I’m not sure) Maybe you'll want to try a different style on your truck.

Factory - Snap On Style

Arm Part Number: 9L1Z-17526-A
Blade Part Number: WW1612

This was the style my Expy came with; the blade snaps into the arm. This appears to be the style used for most of the Gen3's. When I first attempted to change the blade, I snapped the arm by mistake. Not a fan of this design. This arm lifts a couple inches away from the glass.

Blade Part Number: WW1614

It looks like this was the style used on 2017s before the design change. This is what I’m currently using. I like this clean look, but it's best for warmer climates; works great for water but not the best for snow and ice. Note that this arm doesn’t lift more than an inch or so off the glass, which makes winter scraping difficult.

Aftermarket - Metal Arm and Bosch Icon Blade

Blade Part Number: Bosch Icon 13A

This was the style I used before I finally tracked down the part numbers for the slide on arm and blade. This would be my choice if I lived in a colder climate; I’ve run Bosch Icons since they came out, they perform great in snow and ice. This arm lifts a good 4 inches away from the glass, making scraping and snow removal much easier.

Other blades will fit this aftermarket arm as well, as long as they are 13 inches and support the hook-style connector.

Pretty sure Option 2 was introduced midway of the 2016s.
I have a 16 with that setup.

I am switching to option 3 as it fits all the blades on the shelf of auto parts stores.

LokiWolf and others - how difficult is the removal of the factory arm and replacing with the Dorman one above? I have the slide-on style which are a breeze to change but are not very robust for us in the land of ice and snow. Thanks!

Pop up the plastic at the center, remove 14mm nut, pull arm off. Put new arm on, reinstall nut, pop plastic down, and you’re done. Only thing to watch for is misalignment of the arm when you reinstall it. It’s easy to shift the arm a little and have the blade run off the window.

Being "the guy" who somehow always manages to break something that's supposed to be easy, what exactly do I grab to "Pop up the plastic at the center"? I gently coerced it, but I haven't gotten the plastic center that covers the nut to pop off, yet. Are there tabs holding it on, does it pivot somehow, or is it just on there by friction and I'm just not pulling/prying on it enough?

Sorry to be asking for help on what's obviously the easiest part of this replacement. LOL.

The little plastic cover is hinged with pinch tabs. Might need to pop with a flat head...

I have a 2017 Expedition EL with the stock arm. The issue I have with mine is that, even after replacing the blade, the center of the class doesn't get cleaned. It's as though the blade is bent in the center and cannot maintain contact with the glass through a full sweep. Is the arm loose, or do I just need to get something else, like the Dorman? A larger blade would be nice, but the stock arm has that push button release. Would option 3 w/ the 17A blade work for this vehicle?

Yes. I have a 17. The pictures above just a few posts are of my wife’s 17 with the Dorman arm and the 17A installed. No issues. You will not regret the decision.

Get the Dorman and the 17” blade of your choice.
Excellent wiping coverage and you can grab a 17” Jhook blade pretty much anywhere unlike the Ford blades.
Dealership and Amazon were my only options at $18 a pop.
$7 for a standard Rain X blade is just fine for me.

(I'm not sayin' I'm a procrastinator, but,...)

Today I finally got around to replacing my 2016's, "I don't feel like wiping off ANYTHING anymore, so THERE!" rear blade/arm with "option 3" (Dorman arm and Bosch 17A blade).

Thanks to OP G213 (spelling out the three options), and LokiWolf for the photos and hand-holding.

Easy five-minute job, except I forgot to mark/index "horizontal" on the motor shaft before I removed the old arm/blade. I had to experiment a few times pulling the arm back off and resetting it to come up with horizontal before I found the right compromise position.

Looking forward to having a 17" blade's larger cleaning area, too.

They are CRAP! The aftermarket allows you to pull it away from the glass to clean it, and much better coverage. Better wipe.

We do use ours, and in the Winter the OE one might as well have not been there. Better arm and wiper, and it was MUCH more useful.

Any tips for replacing the blade on Option 1 AKA "Factory - Snap On Style". I could not lift the arm up enough to replace the blade and did not want to break it, so I had to resort to letting the shop replace it.

2014EL below, I don't know if other years are different ...

Sure … pull away from glass, put one thumb on top and one on bottom and push. Takes a bit of a pop but comes right out. I agree it feels like it isn't going to go, but that's it. The index fingers are pressing on the arm in the opposite direction to the thumb pressure. In the pic I used my left thumb to snap pic so that's why its not shown. Goes back in the reverse, no thumbs required
