I have a new 2018 Expedition Limited.

After owning a few weeks I began hearing a clank noise when it downshifted from 5th gear to 4th gear.

Retuned to dealership for warranty repair.

Didn't fix it so will return it again this week.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

Ours makes a noise when you first put it in drive. It also makes this taping sound when you open up the door after it has been sitting. Like something is getting set up or something.

After sitting in garage overnight I start the engine and wait a few seconds for the RPM to settle, put foot on brake and put it into Reverse. As soon as it engages I hear the clank. Don't hear it again until the fluids come up to operating temps. ?????

F-150s have TSBs out for clanking during high gear downshifts

You think it's the fuel pump? Just from opening the door you think?
Yep. Someone that is far more mechanically minded than me will correct some of my details, but it was explained to me as follows:

The high-pressure fuel pump needs to be primed before operating. Rather than building that 2-3 seconds into the startup routine (which would cause extra delay after you press the "go button"), they have the pump prime when you open the door and is ready to go when you turn the vehicle on. That's also why it only happens after sitting for a few hours; if it's only been sitting for an hour or so, it won't make the noise because the pump is still/already primed.

My 2012 F150 did it as well, but it was a more electronic noise. My Expi sounds like something is cycling.
