Hi All,

Not to start a debate here, and for some reason, searching the forum is nor working for me.

I'm about to change my oil & filter...2014 EL Limited, 84,000 miles. I know I've read here that there are filters to stay away from, filters recommended, and possibly use a synthetic blend for my oil? I have no idea what's in it now, but it was changed by the dealer when I bought it at just over 80K miles.

I plan on keeping this truck and nickel/diming to save is not part of my plan when it comes to PM.

Thanks...

Jamo

Can't go wrong with Motorcraft filters and Mobile 1 full synthetic. 5w30 rather than the 5w20 that comes in the engine from the factory.

Why are you recommending a different viscosity engine oil than recommended by Ford and its engineers?

I Use 5W-30, it better protects the timing components. That is well documented by experts who service and work on the engines. Many Ford shops, Ford techs, Private mechanics recommend 5W-30. 5W-20 was for cafe regs.

As long as we're on the subject, how much oil goes in the 5.4, and what filter (FL1A, FL800, etc). Mine is due as well.

One of those odd things about Walmart and oil filters.

You can buy a Ford oil filter for less money than they want for the cheaper made filters (that everyone warns you to stay away from.)

Different years hold either 6 or 7 quarts so check the manual. I use the oil recommended in the owner's manual, also printed on the oil fill cap. My '04 has 180K & the '06 230K on 5-20 Castrol GTX, changed every 3K with a Motorcraft filter. The '16 due to the turbos gets Motorcraft Semi Synth 5-30 and Motorcraft filter at 3K. All from Walmart.
