This is my 6th Expy and am well versed in what's included and how everything works for the most part. Still getting used to the newer version of Sync and setting up a few things but wanted to know if there is anything I MUST know about the latest Gen Expeditions? More so stuff that isn't obvious or easily researched.

Thanks!

You will have to condition yourself to hit the Auto Start-Stop "off" button every time you start up...unless you want it to restart pretty much every time you come to a stop. Or, there is a pricy Auto Start-Stop "eliminator" that you can buy if you have money burning a hole in your pocket.

The annoying smart key thing will probably burn you a million times unless you always drive the same vehicle. I have 4 vehicles I swap between at work and I either have all 4 of those keys bulging my pocket like a ****-star, or I never have the right key and I'm swearing at them. lol. The problem is If I have all 4 keys with me, then my employees can't use the other 3 vehicles as needed, so its a non-stop battle we all fight. The new Ford keys are sooooo enormous, I just don't understand why they didn't stick with their smaller 2013-14 style flat key, it has all the exact same feature on it....

I don't get all the bother about the start stop. I get in. Start, Seat belt, push the start stop off button. For me it's a non issue. And if I forget when it happens once it gets turned off.

I drive multiple different vehicles during the day at work or whatever and to have a ritual for every vehicle is absolutely absurd. I can barely remember what I had for breakfast, muchness remember to shut some stupid EPA button off everyday! lol.

Yeah I’m not too bothered by it. Had a ‘15 F150 for a year and I guess I got used to it. I’m not trying to race anyone off the light anymore so if it takes a half a second to get going, I’m not worried about it.

You can just use a jumper wire in auto stop start behind the button to always show off and disable. It costs maybe $1.00 in wire. Hahahahaha

congrats on the new ride :)

I'll speak up as someone else who doesn't mind the start/stop. Once you learn when it shuts the motor down, it's pretty easy to prevent it from doing so. Plus, when it does kill the motor, it's no big deal, they did a good job making it fairly seamless.

Because the cabin is so well insulated, you have to slam the doors pretty hard to get them to close. Coming from an XLT F-150, that was a big adjustment for me.

Oh, and watch out for the gap right above the wireless charging cubby. A lot of folks on here have lost a lot of stuff down there.

I almost lost something yesterday!
And I’m not the biggest fan of that cubby... seems cumbersome getting my phone in and out and most of the time just throw it in a cup holder

I don't ever use the wireless charging as I plug my phone in for CarPlay, so I agree with you.

Good luck with the vehicle. I'm almost 2 years and 25k miles in to my '18 platinum max and I absolutely love it...have never had even a moment's regret.

You likely won't get the gas mileage you thought you would, but you could (presumably) afford an $80k SUV so you likely don't care. They really are great vehicles.

Yeah I’m coming from the 5.4 2014 so it’s a little better but nothing to be proud about. Am hoping to get 2-3 years out of it and hope Ford makes an electric one because I’m filling up at least once a week and it’s driving me nuts. Can’t believe there isn’t a full sized electric SUV yet.

Once you break in the truck, your mileage should go up. Its hard to coax the mileage out but once you learn, itll drive forever without having to fill. I usually go a wk and a hlf, 2 wks if im judicious with it. Gm came out with hybrid fs suvs but it was 2 expensive and took too long to see the savings. The hybrid models of the expy and navi are in the pipeline, probably around the time of the mid cycle refresh(2023ish). The wagoneer is coming soon as well as the new gm utes. Since a new tundras on its way, i would suspect a sequoia to follow, so the next 2-3 yrs are gonna be interesting for this market.

Any full size is going to cost more in energy, EV vehicles don’t get a free ride either. Many report electric bills going up average anywhere from $70-$200 monthly. With the miles I drive it’s closer than I thought, recharge is 1-2 hours vs 5 minutes for my 34 gallon tank refill. $150 will feed my 5.4 V8 for 3-4 weeks of my driving, I don’t think it’s bad. Most of mine is highway, $75 in fuel gets me about 520 miles of range and I only fill up every other week. Some areas offer EV rates which help on the electric bill, in those areas it’s actually pretty economical to do an electric if you can make it work for your lifestyle. For a daily commuter to an office an electric makes good sense in some cases.

I just got the same expy over the weekend, so far I would say setup the RSE to Bluetooth if you have it.

The start stop doesn’t bother me, bugs my wife though. Also it doesn’t activate until the engine heats up.

don’t walk away from the vehicle expecting it to auto lock, like sooooo many other manufacturers out there. The first few days I assumed it would lock when I walked away. It doesn’t.

I guess those are the main things I noticed.

It seems to me that half of the time the auto start/stop doesn't. I haven't figured out the exact conditions yet, but I think if the seat heater/cooler is on it won't shut off or if the AC is either on max or maybe just has the fan at a high setting it doesn't shut off either.

The heated steering wheel and/or seats seem to be a surefire way to prevent it from activating.

All this being said, my A/S/S hasn't activated in probably six months. Whenever I come to a stop, the little icon comes up indicating that it is disabled; when I scroll over to the auto start-stop status screen it says "Vehicle on due to vehicle charging." So clearly there is something about my battery or my electrical system in general that is preventing the vehicle from maintaining enough charge to get over the threshold for the system to work properly.

I plan to ask the dealer about it when I'm in for an oil change in a few weeks and have them test the battery.
