Anyone had success with taking their 2016 or 2017 to Sync 3.4? Thinking of trying it myself, but trying to read all I can about it first.

For $109? Or you’ve got another way?

Ford sent a letter about the update and when I saw how much it was I threw it away and didn’t look at it again. I think I confused the maps update with this update to 3.4

No overlay will never come. Screwing with FORSCAN, I got the overlay to permanently show up, with no number and response to turning the temp wheel. Like HVAC in the right MFD, and Tire pressure in the left MFD, the coding just isn’t there.
Sucks. Well at least we know now.Good call, I didn't do that yet. I read that they blacklisted the boot loader for that version. But I'm assuming you just use the typical upgrade path and it works? Also, make sure you do the 3rd install to go to 19274 Version. 19101, and 19100 are a bit glitchy.

One other question for you @LokiWolf .... I noticed this morning that some of the navigation text was in UK english...(i.e. favourites instead of favorites)...Anyway to change that with ForScan? Not a huge deal, just curious.
For those who have successfully upgraded Sync 3 to version 3.4:
Did you do the APIM firmware upgrade or not?
I'm still trying to determine if this is required or recommended, and if recommended, why? The Cyanlabs link talks a lot about how Forscan can't do this but UCDS can, and I'm not wildly enthusiastic about buying a UCDS just to update firmware in one module that might (possibly, maybe) not need it.
You do not need the Firmware to go to 3.4. All 7 vehicles I have done now I have not done it. The Beta version for developers for FORSCAN can do it with the correct adapter, but it is a PAIN!
The Ford Engineer’s I talked to, say it increases the risk of failure. And then you don’t have access to the ford equipment to recover from it if it fails.
It is like going from 1803 Windows 10 to 1909 Windows 10, should you do the BIOS flash on your computer, yes. Will it work with no issues without, Yes. Difference here is the Flash greatly increases the risk of failure because of complexity.
Follow the CyanLabs instructions use their AIO files and you will not have any issues.
You need three flash drives to do it at once.
1) Format Tool(Small)
2) 3.4 Files including 1/18 Map Files (16GB is my recommenced as the install uses the space for swap space).
3) 19274 Update(4GB, Again, bigger than install for swap space)
Hope that helps.

Goto 19274. I was on 19101 for about 2 hours in my Edge, and minutes in the Expy. 19274 takes care of a lot of bugs! Maybe it will take care of the language.
Did you use the CyanLabs AIO Files? If you did you should not have that issue.
IIRC, enabling NIM also disables the auto-911 function. I know there's a trade for NIM, not positive its the 9-11 function, though.Confirm successful installation of 19274. However, it didn't resolve the language issue.
Confirm that I used CyanLabs AIO files for the US. However, I did enable "Nav in Motion" (NiM) using ForScan. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that enabling NiM puts the unit into EU mode, since they don't have laws regarding touchscreen usage in motion.
I might try disabling NiM via ForScan and seeing what that gives me. Or maybe I need to disable NiM and redo the installation?
Everything else works perfectly though, so I almost don't want to mess with it. What do you think?
Both of you are correct. The code you change to get Nav in motion has a few downsides.
It basically achieves it by telling Sync 3 that it is in a vehicle located in Europe.
Therefore you can use Nav because there is no law. Because it thinks you are in Europe, it disables and removes the 911 notification feature, and prevents the Sirius Navlink features from working.
The 911 was a deal breaker for me. Our 15 Expy called the Police for my Wife, when a lady turned in front of her at 45 MPH. She was OK, but if she wasn’t that could make a significant difference.
G213, did you go to 19274? If not, that would be what I would try first.
