If you have a 15-17 and aren’t running a Catch can you are severely missing out on an easy build up preventer, and possible issues down the line. See images below. It was a nice day after a week of severe cold, so I took the opportunity to empty my Catch cans on both my 16 Edge Sport and my 17 Expedition(1st Gen 3.5EB). These are pics from my Expeditions catch can After about 3500 Miles. My Edge was slightly less, but looked the same, and was about 4000 miles. It is worse in winter, and the 3.5 definitely fills faster.

I take it your Expy likes it’s coffee with double cream. It’s a no brainer to run one of these cans in the 15-17 with how much stuff they catch for 1-2 hundred bucks or so.

Will that catch can come with the proper mount like in the pic? If I recall, the one that mounts by the battery won't work for the expy, thanks

The one I linked is the one I have installed. Pic included in the original post.

Not really needed on a 2007.

Catches the crud coming back to the intake.

New user here,
My Question is, what is the difference between the catch can linked above and the UPR Dual Valve Catch can they sell over on Stage3motorsport? other than the huge price difference. What is advantage on the UPR for having the WOT Line?

:Update: Figured it out with Minimal research.

And this is why I’ll never buy a truck w eco boost.

Haha! I love it when people say that. ANY Modern Motor has this problem. Direct Injection Motors make it worse, because they don’t have the fuel running over the valves to help clean it. Even the 5.0 people are putting Catch Cans on. Not an EB, but has DI.

That is why the 2nd Gen 3.5TT EB found in the 18+ Expy’s has less issue with buildup, because it has PI and DI injectors. Still the crap going in, just has fuel being injected above the intake valves to help dissolve it.

For clarity for those in the back that seem to not hear things...

THIS IS NOT JUST A FORD THING, and NOT JUST AN ECOBOOST THING. Any DI Motor should have a Catch Can.

YES. WE KNOW. BUT THIS IS A FORD FORUM. No need to yell.

The Mopar HEMI is a pushrod Engine so none of the issues like Fords VVT or DI on pickups.

And the only other Motor I mentioned was a Ford Motor and is NOT an EcoBoost.

Your logic for not getting a EcoBoost is flawed!

Yeah, JLT only attaches to Passenger side breather, and UPR goes to both. It has been proven that the Passenger side see the majority, so putting it there filters the most with much less complexity, and at a much lower price. Never going to catch it all.

I like the JLT for the ease of install and access, for a good price. As you can see it is still catching a bunch!

The Hemi is a decent engine but good luck with the rest of a Mopar truck. The engine will be the last of your worries on that heap. My friend just bought a Grand Cherokee and my reaction was “what have you done” lol.

So if I'm at 54k on my 2016...is it worth to install now?

I guess my only "concern" I have now is the dreaded rough cold start idle, but everything I've read seems to say it's just a result of direct injection. I did plugs at 45k (used Motorcraft and gapped correctly) and everything else is in great shape.

Plan to keep it for a while or ditch it in 20K? Keeping it, put a Catch Can on.

The direct injection doesn’t clean the build up caused by what the Catch Can catches. The Rough cold start is caused in most cases by 2 things, plugs(Which you did) and Carbon Build Up(That the Catch Can helps to decrease).

Dang Loki, don't toss that out, you can eat that! LOL all it really is is a bit of moisture suspended in the oil mist that has condensed, right?

I am NOT saying you guys are wrong.....

The SLK guys ragged on me for years b/c I did not install a catch can for my overboosted supercharger....other than the half-quart of oil I removed from the bottom of the intercooler at 150,000 miles, it never affected anything other than fouling the MAF every once in a while.

I have 195,000 on it, no catch can and tape over the CE light.....and as of 3 weeks ago, will still break 140mph.

My '17 has 84,000 miles, no catch can....oil always clean, never modded, yet. If it begins to cause sensor issues, I'd prob install one.

We'll see over the next 3-4 years.....I'm not going anywhere.

I changed my oil too last weekend due to the warm temps here in Richmond and I had the same milky crap in my catch can. It also had about 2 ounces of black oil on top of it. I am glad to see that other people are producing the same milky crud too. I thought something was wrong with my engine.

I have a catch can on my 2103 Mustang GT with 5.0L engine. I only get dark black oil in the catch can, never any milky stuff.

Fair to say that the milky stuff is condensation mixed in with the oil?

It is, and from my experience completely normal, and FAR worse in the Winter.
