What mod would someone recommend I do next on my 2011 EL XLT? I have done the following so far:

Tune
3" catback exhaust
Lift w/ new shocks all around
Raptor wheels w/ new tires
Rhino push bar with led lights
Aftermarket android auto head unit w/ infinity speakers
LED lights replaced in all ext and interior lights (except headlights)

Just wondering what others have done. I really like this truck and it is our ultimate family hauler. Thanks.

I should have noted I also did the Gotts mod and have a K&N filter in the air box. Have always wondered if an intake was the route to go since some people said they help and others say they are a waste of $.

Regular maintenance is always done when needed and scheduled. Gotta keep this thing running well above having toys added to it.

Bad idea, if they don't mess up your MAF they will just make it harder to sell and do nothing but lighten your wallet. The stock one is more than fine up past 6k rpm. I won't buy any vehicle that has or had one.

K N filters, Gotts mod too. The Ford engineers aren't so stupid that they are going to restrict flow to an engine they spent thousands of hours designing. If I saw something like that when I was buying a vehicle I would be gone within a minute...……...lol. When I was in the Excursion forum everybody wanted a cold air intake but "hello, it already has one".

you're anti modification mindset is rather annoying.

Many guys are noticing a huge improvement.

My mpg gained 1.75 mpg

Im at 25.15 mpg at 65 mph

You're opinion has very little value...

About the size of an ants "____"

I'll let you figure out the word
Oh my mistake, the engineers must have overlooked all those HP and MPG little tricks...…….lol. Fun to fiddle with but all a big waste of time. Been there, done that...…….

You do realize engineers are human.

Who make mistakes, where others have engineered products to improve automobiles.

So your engineer is gods gift to automotive has balanced out..

I've been in the automotive industry and market since 1992. Been racing in go karts to professional race teams.

In a previous job, I did fuel system calibration work as an engineer and I can tell you the company does not engineer every piece of that puzzle to perform at its best. There are typically 2 scenarios. Pick a standard CHEAP paper air filter and make sure the REST of the system works together to hit a target performance number that doesn't over stress any internal engine component so the vehicle lasts for 150k miles. OR restrict the airflow because the engine produces more power in this model with this intake/exhaust AND CHEAP AIR FILTER than it did with the first vehicle this engine was in and we don't want to run a second test for durability (vehicle life) so make it produce less power.

So to your pessimism, there is ALWAYS room for improvement. Otherwise you should have purchased a supercar instead of a workhorse SUV.

ME? Everybody wants to hack up their intake because it's easy and fun but it's a bad idea...……….

Maybe it's like running and hiking shoes?

The first thing I do with new footwear is pull the crappy footbed insole out and throw it away.
Then I buy a good aftermarket insole and use that.
Of course the footwear manufacturers could have just provided a decent one with the shoe.

BUT ... I would find it hard to understand why Ford wouldn't provide an improved air intake "if" the aftermarket products resulted in more HP and/or MPG. If they can advertise more performance in either category it sure seems like they would want that.

In other words ... I dunno.

They do, the engineers aren't going to screw up the intake when they are trying to squeeze every little bit out of MPG and HP, especially after they spent thousands of hours designing the engine etc., that's just ridiculous. They sell all that junk to people that imagine they can improve on it...…...it's kind of funny really.

Ford Performance Parts use to offer a CAI kit for the 5.4L F150 that you could order from your local dealership parts department. No idea if engineers, human resources or if the shipping department designed it, really wasn't a thought I ever pondered. Came with the standard Motorcraft warranty. Probably won't fit a 5.4L Expedition since it was made for a 5.4L F150.

The washable and reusable K&N type filter it spec'd is still available, Ford part number M9601B. Its $44 on Amazon, and considering $15 is the going rate for a once-a-year throw-away paper filter, you'd probably end up saving a few bucks in the long run. Then again saving money isn't something most accounting folks would ever recommend you try doing.
