Done deal

The negotiation was calling the dealership owner who I met in a Bar my first week of college in 1977 when we were both 18.

Invioce minus all rebates:

Platinum Max 4x4, max trailer tow package, was already tinted with Ford’s all weather mats. Tint and mats zeroed.
MSRP was 84,170 and we paid OTD 74,750-ish

How do you negotiate?

I send an e-mail to about 5 dealerships all telling them exactly what I’m looking for, my timeline, how I’m going to buy (finance, cash etc) and ask them to let me know their best out the door price. I let them know I am sending the same request to other dealerships. I tell them my target price range. Usually ~3 will respond and I start going back and forth via email pitting them against each other. Once I get to what i believe is around the lowest price I call and work each of them over a bit and continue to pit them against each other. Once I’ve settled on a dealership I have a call with them to get my final negotiations in. Stuff like floor mats, roof rails, additional included oil changes etc. whatever I can get them to throw in.

My time at the dealer takes less than 30 minutes when I finally go to pick up the vehicle. Emailing etc probably takes an hour total throughout the process.

I did something very similar on my Expy. Most dealers have the “internet price guy or girl “. Hade them give me a price on what I wanted and the colors they had in the lot or coming. Half wouldn’t put anything in writing and wanted me to come in. I told them what is the point of the internet sales if I have to waste my time haggling at the dealership. Give me your best price. And of course I do it the last day or two of the month. Ended up buying from a dealer I have never used before because he gave me what I wanted and we did the entire thing over texts until time of delivery. Expy was detailed and had the Weathertech floor mats installed. Old mats in a Weathertech box and out the door I went. Very nice way to shop if you know exactly what you want to buy. Some of the other guys would do a fallow up text or call and I would send the picture of the new ride just to piss them off.

All 8 of my Fords have been bought from the same dealer, minus 1 and that was in the same dealer network, just 20 minutes further away. 5 of those from the same sales man. 2 of the ones before those 5 from the now Manager when he was a sales man. They don’t BS with me, or run me through the ringer. Heck, they LOVE my trade ins. I get WAY above what any BB value is based on miles. They know I have taken care of it, oil changes at the dealer, washed and waxed, good tires, and any problem taken care of promptly. My 17 Expedition was bought by one of the Service guys, and my 16 Sport by one of their internet sales guys!

My 2020 actually came from an out of network dealer because it had the options the wife wanted. They worked a deal through the commercial department to get it out from under the regular sales at the other dealer. Happy wife, happy life!

I drive them hard, but take amazing care of them.

It works fine. There are a lot of ways to buy a car that work. I just have no desire to spend time in a dealership “going through numbers”.

Seriously well done. If I did not have a guy I trusted, and a dealer I liked I would do the same. I bought 2 2020’s within 8 days of each other during the best deals of the Pandemic. They needed the sales, and I am a no BS person.

I have bought 6 trucks and my wife has bought 2 SUV’s from the big dealer in town and we have never even seen the same sales person, manager or service people at this place. I usually trade in ever three to four years and my wife is the same. You are lucky to have a dealer and salesman stick around. I think that is pretty rare these days.

Special Edition. Kinda rare as dealers order the same options and you pay more for them. Ford has a set package that is discounted 1k or maybe 2 that takes the price down. Can’t remember all details but main thing is you get ccd and tow package. Might’ve had cargo manager and something else.

@Paul M I like the wheels on your Platinum. The other rims you can get on that are too much for my taste on a vehicle you may take in the mud etc. Nice magnetic metallic color to, looks familiar...:favorites13: Congrats on the new ride!

No order guide but a ford pamphlet summarizing the changes for 2021 models. Expy changes are summarized below:

-new STX trim, pretty much btw xl and xlt trims to include 8in touchscreen.

-more availability of wheels btw xlt and ltd trims.

-copilot 360 available on xlt

No new options, changes in features, or sync 4.

Where did you get this info?

Is a 3/4 ton Expedition preferred over a half ton if you know you are giving up FE?
