Can we talk HD Tow one more time?

Max models get a 10-20% increase in payload with 9% longer wheelbase and 20% bigger fuel tank at the cost of 4% drop in fuel efficiency and 2% decrease in traditional tow trailer weight limit?

And a 3% decrease in max tongue weight. Max is limited to 900lbs max tongue weight (WDH). Due to extra distance between the receiver and the rear axle??

I’ll start a spread sheet of info once I get back home, we’re camping now. Perhaps we can narrow down what the unicorn of Payload is

Still never got the answer to my last question though!! Do FX4 NON HD tow have HD springs or “lighter” springs? Hard to dig deep here on my phone.

Lot of info here, I apologize if mentioned prior:

I have a 2020 FX4 + HD Tow Package. My GVWR is 7,450 LBs and max occupants and cargo is 1,746 LBs. I guess this translates to my truck weighing 5,704 LBs which is A LOT heavier than I thought it would be as those are the only two options checked...

One takeaway from this is the exact same same year/optioned MAX is exactly 270 lbs heavier (of which, maybe 40 +/- LBs of that is from wet extra fuel weight and larger gas tank). Yet can carry 159 more pounds of payload than me.

Don't know if the OP has been answered, but I DO have the reverse knob and brake controller.

Also, TTBOMK, it has the same tow capacity of any others, with a tongue weight of 600 LBs (900 with WDH) and maximum tow weight of 9,000 LBS (the full blown transfer case 4x4 subtracts 200 lbs of total tow capacity). The only thing that may seem unusual, is b/c the FX4 comes standard with 3.73s the HD Tow Pack option does not "add" them.

Also, the HD Tow Pack adds more frontal area (55 SF to 60 SF).

The below is helpful:

Expedition Dave - how do you have the HD tow package with no brake controller or fancy knob? That’s part of the package right?

Not sure if CCD adds weight, but my Limited has CCD. Are the limited that have the higher payload have CCD is standard suspension?

Just a thought because mine seems to be closer to the Platinum trims. Basically mine is a platinum minus the massage seats and 25 extra HP.

Possible, we just don't have enough data yet to determine what adds/subtracts significant vehicle weight. There are probably enough production variances that we would have to sample a couple hundred to know.

A rule seems to be 22 rim = CCD unless Canada bound...I think. I rented a limited max up in Mississauga that had 20" rim with the wire/CCD. That was my first rental and had me believing all limited trim got the CCD, but, must be a Canada build difference. Wish I took photos of the 3 rental stickers to contribute to this dataset!

123s only ones to have the lower front GAWR from what I see.

That 1905 payload is amazing. I think a similar spec non fx4 7 seater without sunroof might have a little more ~ 50 lbs or so... Keep those door stickers coming!

Also, saw that someone blacked out their VIN. I didn't think to, but am genuinely curious as to why? I see folks do it on licence plates, too... Any ideas?

I blacked it because it is commonly done with license plates on google maps, etc. I guess I'm just a little cautious online.

The lightest front GAWR is mine which is the only 2wd on the list. I would expect the 2wd 123 wb's to be even less.

Has anybody actually completely unloaded their vehicle, filled it with fuel and taken it to the scales to check the accuracy of the sticker?

upload_2020-8-31_9-32-53.jpeg I don’t think anyone posted this number yet . . . 2019 MAX XL (1 trim below XLT) 4x4 with tow package. No sunroof or other options. I’ve spent the last two weeks moving locally with a 20 foot enclosed trailer. No idea of the total weight, but very impressed with the way this vehicle tows.

2018 Max FX4 with HD tow package and panoramic sunroof:
View attachment 37834

I’ve never weighed it without wife/4 kids+car seats/gear/WDH installed (used 3-pass method to confirm hitch setup). But the weight was significantly lower than what I estimated.

Also, we considered getting the FX4 and having the dealer install the brake controller. The dealer quoted ~$500.

I have not checked the part number on my springs yet. Wait! I bet I can use parts.ford.com... be right back...

Have you installed your brake controller yet?? Reason I ask is, I have a CURT wireless that I'm looking to sell that I only used once (bought a trailer with EOH and needed it, 2 weeks later purchased a new truck that had a controller already). Plug and play, no wiring required and it worked great. Let me know, I spent $180.00 on it.
