Hi All, have a 2017 XLT. This morning I started it and noticed the rear AC was left on from a few days ago. Since it was 28 degrees outside, I quickly turned it off. Drove for an errand. As I re entered, I heard a loud clicking noise from the rear of the vehicle. Engine was off. I couldn’t figure it out and it was too cold to stand around. Drove home.

Just went on another errand and it started clicking after I unlocked the car. And proceeded to click for 30 seconds

Sounds like an electronic motor. Seems to be wanting to close a damper or something in the AC unit.

Does anyone know what it could be? I don’t mind tearing it apart, just not sure what to look for.

Mine just started doing this, too. Haven’t had a chance to tear into it, yet.

Looks like my post was doubled

This video captures the exact same sound I’m experiencing

This video is a different actuator

I’m assuming it’s one of these. I’ll try to narrow it down between the two

Don't forget these are earlier models.

Don't forger these are earlier models.

Thanks, there is another video showing a newer model. The actuators appear to be in the same position. All the plastic trim is similar to mine on the outside...I’m certain the part numbers are different and a few other minor differences, but the positioning of them is the same

I had the same issue on my 2012 limited. Replaced the blend door actuator.

Just be careful ordering them from
the dealer. Mine likes to send me front ac actuators unless I look at the diagram myself. Luckily they don’t look the same so you’ll know if you’ve got the right one.

easy 5 minute job once you’re started though

For mine it was the top actuator. Went to Ford parts website to get motorcraft part number and found it on sale on Amazon.

Already disassembled the old unit. Disappointed to find one tooth was broken. It’s a 2017 model...I don’t understand interior parts failing this quickly

It is a common problem. If you don't turn the temp controls all the way hot or cold it seems to prolong getting or prevent the problem altogether. What happens every time you start the truck is the door motor cycles and if it goes to the full stop on either hot or cold it will break a tooth on the gear eventually.
