Lincoln was really world class in this era. This car has power windows, automatic transmission, power steering, AC, pretty impressive the amenities it has for its era. All original down to paint and drivetrain. Very torquey car.

My Explorer is pretty tall. See, it barely fits in the garage:

Then I saw this at work. Its hood is about level to the roof of the minivan next to it.

We had an 82 Olds 98. When we walked out of a store into the parking lot I looked for the big silver back end sticking out of the parking spot. We thought it was pretty big. But, nothing like mom and dad's 75 Olds 98. That thing was so big I believe the 82 could have been set down inside it and be unseen.

If you wanted the spare tire out of either one you had to be willing/able to step up inside the trunk and take it loose before dragging it back far enough to pick up and out of the trunk.

I knew a girl in high school who's dad had a 1964 Mercury Park Lane. That was a big long car, too. I thought that back window was cool. Hit a button and it dropped down (like some of the new pick ups rear windows will do). I think that thing had a 408? or 410 ci V8 in it.

That big Lincoln had the 462 ci. from the MEL engine family (Mercury,Edsel,Lincoln). Couldn’t get one in a Ford, and it was nothing like the 460 ci.(385) Ford engine family. That baby had 340 hp and 485 lb ft of torque. They were known for their low end stump pulling torque! By the looks of that beautiful vessel it needed it!

Yes it’s a 7.6 liter. The ride is also unbelievably good!! It’s like your sitting on your living room couch even when going over railroad tracks lol.

Another tidbit of info on those suicide door Lincoln’s is that they are actually unibody cars. The main reason Lincoln made them suicide (front opening rear doors) was because there wasn’t adequate support for the large rear doors to open from the rear on the convertibles. One would think those 4dr convertibles would fold in half in the middle. Cool thing is that you can option a new Lincoln with suicide rear doors again.

My Dad used to drive the Lincoln Town cars and he loved them. Every time they would pass a gas station the steering wheel would automatically turn to pull in at least that was what he told me. As a kid, I could have lived in the trunk.

My old Lincoln was a '74 Continental. White with a blue top and blue interior. That was the greatest car I ever had. I'd buy another one to try to recapture lost youth but they are nearly impossible to find. It's on my bucket list like building a 427 Cobra replica.

My Expedition has the same kind of smooth power that the old Lincoln had. And it has just a wee bit more passenger room.

Ever think those old Continentals were called that because they were the size of a continent? ;)

I'd like to take a Mark V Town Coupe and make a hybrid out of it. Huge amount of battery space under the hood.
