Hate to hear that was hoping to get mine installed next week.

Any ideas on a path forward?
I’m going to install the pro backing parts “dash”, and look under the dash to make sure the TBC brain is in fact installed. We might be at the mercy of ford at the moment but I going to press my dealership to lean on ford to figure it out

Thank you, I’m not worried about installing the pro back up assist, I’ve used it one time just to play with it in my truck and don’t see a reason to add it to the expedition that will pull a trailer twice a year.

I would agree, however, there is a second plug I believe it plugs into the pro backing. It might need it to complete the circuit.

I’m waiting on a part at the moment. The computer sees the TBC but it’s not working. Soon as I get the pro steering controller in and see if that where the second plug goes I’ll up date y’all.

I find it hard to believe that there is not a wire harness with an open connector port or something behind the dash.

On previous F150’s I’ve owned the truck came with a short harness jumper to compete the connection point. I installed an OEM controller in our 2018 when it was new. You need to program the controller to the computer with FORScan to get it to function.

Try checking YouTube videos or another dealer. There has to be a connection point. They make one harness for behind the dash for all expeditions and I would even bet it’s the same harness that goes in the F150’s.

So, I got the Trailer Pro Steering components today. As I suspected, the second plug on the factory trailer break pig tail does in fact plug into the Pro Steering. As per my other posts, I have already installed the TBC components. I will install these new parts tomorrow and I will up date on the results.

You have the 15" screen. Do you have the trailer section in there?
If not you need a module OR the software needs to be configured maybe for the trailer addition.

I have the 15” screen and the trailer section I took it to ford to have it programmed. The computer sees the TBC but ford dealership doesn’t have the Forscan update yet

When looking at the trailer screen, did you have a trailer plugged in to it?
If not, mine screen looks just like yours, once the trailer is attached, and found by the system, there are other items you can access.

TBH the reason Ford doesn't include a brake controller on these from factory without HD Tow is you shouldn't be towing anything that needs a brake controller without the HD Tow package to begin with, weight wise.

The base non-HD tow is able to tow 6,000 lbs. Trailers over 3,000 lbs are required to have brakes in my state (Michigan). So if the trailer has electric brakes at 3,000 lbs you should have a controller installed and not be relying on the vehicle's brakes.

From the manual:
Ford Motor Company recommends separate functioning brake systems for trailers weighing more than 1,500 lb (680 kg) when loaded

There is no difference in powertrain options in the TimberLine between one with HD towing and one w/out. I went to a dealer I use to work at and looked at both build sheets, one with and one w/out “mine”. The only difference was my “active park assist 2.0” was removed/deleted and of course I did not have “factory” Pro Trailer Backing/Trailer Brake Controller components installed. I currently have the Pro Trailer and Trailer Brake Controller installed. The computer sees these but the dealer doesn’t have the forscan update to install the software at this time. Ford has not released it yet.

it's not the powertrain that is different.
The HD tow rear differential is a bigger housing/ring gear than non-HD tow. I think it's 8.8 versus 9.75". There are some other differences.
Power is the least important matter with regards to towing capacity.

Ditto… any updates on this? I have a 22 Exp Limited Max, no tow package. Of course now I want to tow something under 6000lb that will have two axels and brakes. Really would like to install the factory gain switch so I don’t get yelled at by the wife, but sounds like that’s a problem. Call to the parts department yielded a response that no gain switch module existed for my vehicle. Thanks!
