Dealer has replaced the valve body. When the transmission is cold, I still have a noticeable delay between 3/5. After it warms up, the shifts are firmer. Dealer says this is normal.

Is it normal to still have a delay when cold or should I hit another dealer?

Shifting Up and only into 5th I have always "felt". whether from 3 str8 to 5 or 4 to 5.

All other shifts are normal. Its just that 5th gear i can feel. Like a bucking of a horse.

Even after warm feels the same but not as dramatic just like yours. Its a common issue with these. Def not normal but the dealer will say it is. Same with my case

Do you feel it when it's in Sport mode? My theory is the hunting and pecking for gears (because there are so many) combined with the programming of the non-sport settings is what the cause is. I do not experience it much when I'm a little more aggressive with my acceleration (no matter what setting) and in sport I don't think I ever notice it.

I agree more gears are not always better and I feel it always looking for the best gear. I think that is the nature when you have all these gears.
Personally a 5 or 6 would be better but in this world of eco crap all these manufacturers are trying to squeeze out everything and most of the time it never works and never accomplishes the eco thing they were seeking.

Yeah, it's kinda like the auto stop/start crap. The benefit is negligible at best.

I have a Raptor and Expedition Limited, both with the 10 speed. I suspect we feel certain gear shifts more than others due to the torque convert locking and locking. I suspect the torque converter begins locking at 5th gear, and anytime it upshifts or downshifts you also feel the torque converter which creates a jolt.

Both my '18 Expedition and '11 Flex Ecoboosts have an exaggerated "delay" as you describe when cold.

I have come to the point that when im dropping off my car at a dealer about a noise or performance issue ( with no check engine lights) and im asked by the service advisor randomly if I have warranty as im giving him my keys I will make sure i say NO. When they think u have no ESP warranty they have no problem actually looking into and or diagnosing and telling the $1,768,887 cost to fix and what you need or should be replaced. But if they already know u have an ESP warranty they will denie fixing things or really look into without check engine light cause they dont want to deal with Ford and do the work on a discount. I can literally bring my vehicle to ford with a rattling and they will say "oh thats normal" after knowing u have warranty or ESP. But of coarse they prolly find out u have an ESP anyways by running your VIN so atleast I tried ...
