Hi everyone,

Just a quick update on my situation:

About a week ago, I reached out to my sales representative again. He sent me a screenshot from what appears to be their internal sales system, which lists the status of my vehicle as “Non-Shippable.” I asked if this means the vehicle has already been built, but unfortunately, he said he couldn't provide any further information.

You can find more details in my previous post here:
Original Thread – Order Confirmed Oct 29, 2024 – Still No Shipment (Canada, 2025 Expedition Platinum Max)

If anyone has had similar updates or knows what “Non-Shippable” might mean in this context, I’d appreciate any insight.

Thanks!

My sales rep also sent a similar screenshot of non-shippable. I suspect the other person's hail reason makes a lot of sense. Basically if they had built any earlier or later we wouldn't have been delayed. I suppose thats better than some major defect detected

Ford has issued a safety recall involving potentially defective engines for the 2025 Ford Expedition. The vehicles involved, some at the factory and some at the dealers, cannot be sold or delivered to the customer until the engine is repaired: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2025/RCLRPT-25V198-1837.PDF

Ford still does not have a handle on its poor quality, despite their CEO stating it is one of his top priorities.

Here is a copy of Ford's notice to dealers which includes the build dates of vehicles with the defective engines: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2025/RCMN-25V198-7062.pdf

Mine was built week of March 3 and has been listed as Non Shippable for 2 months now. My dealer finally said he got ahold of someone with Ford and they say it is missing a chip of some sort and is scheduled to be released the 3rd week of June. The dealer even thinks that is probably not going to happen. And no word direct from Ford at all. Why not tell us what the issue is? Very strange and very disappointing

I'm still waiting. My vehicle has been in production since February 21st this year. I've reverse-searched over 20 vehicles through Ford’s official inventory search, and it’s quite strange—around 80% of the vehicles with a lower production sequence number than mine have already been built and shipped. (My Production Sequence Number is 118XX, and many with numbers like 105XX have already been delivered.) I really don’t understand what’s causing the delay.

Ford will not tell you (its customer) what the delay and issue is, as they do not want you to know.

Ford will not tell you what the issue is as they don't want keyboard warriors and YouTubers blasting them online. I don't blame them.

Since the assembly line does not deal in individual electronic components, the "chip" reference is probably actually a module that is in short supply. And, when it comes to understanding electronic components, most dealers are clueless and they'll toss around the term "chip" to mean any electronic device that is in short supply.

The fact that 2025s are shipping and many dealers have them in stock tells me that a "chip" or a module is not the problem. Hard for me to imagine that people like imm009 ordered a unique vehicle that requires a now-missing component that nobody else ordered. Not to be negative, but I think imm009's Expedition got sidelined for some assembly or calibration issue that the factory is trying to resolve.

Feeling so frustrated right now~ I honestly just want to curse out loud. Truly jealous of those who’ve already picked up their cars.

Have you considered canceling the order and starting over? Painful, but you might actually make some progress.

Yes, I’ve been considering whether to switch cars recently. My sales rep told me there’s a vehicle with exactly the same configuration as the one I ordered, except it comes with an extra third-row floor mat (at my own cost). The color is Dark Matter Grey Metallic. From the photos I’ve seen online, it looks lighter than black but darker than grey. The trunk lid has a slight contrast in color, and to my surprise, I actually think it looks a bit better than plain black. I’m still torn, though—I’m not sure how Dark Matter Grey Metallic looks in person.

@imm009 My 2024 Limited SPP is Dark Matter. It's very dark, but not black. In bright sun, you can see silver, gold, blue, and green metal flake in the paint.

I had pretty much given up hope today and almost make the decision, but I randomly checked my order just now—and it’s already BUILT!
I was this close to switching to another one in dark grey—what a close call!
Estimated delivery: June 13, 2025 – June 19, 2025

In the end, I still didn’t get the original vehicle I ordered. I placed the order on October 28 last year, and it wasn’t scheduled for production until the end of February this year. Then I waited another three months without any update on build completion. Finally, just last week, Ford informed me that the vehicle from my original order had been hit by hail during transportation and was sent directly to auction by the manufacturer… First time I’ve ever experienced something like this.

Thankfully, I was mentally prepared. I had done a lot of research online, and many people were already talking about the hail incident — some even shared the range of potentially affected VINs. My original order happened to fall within that range.

Luckily, the dealership had an in-stock unit available with the exact same configuration — the only difference was the color. I had originally ordered solid black, but the in-stock one was Dark Space Metallic. It’s a bit lighter than black but much darker than standard gray. Everything else matched perfectly, so I picked it up without hesitation.
