Hmm, when it inevitably happens again I guess I'll look into some aluminum aftermarket covers, which also seem to be pretty rare.
yeah, let me know if you find any. I think the smart ones that design this stuff believe quality is job #1 and the covers will never have to be removed. So as long as they are torqued perfectly during the engine build, they should be good forever right? But again, the hot/cold cycles of an engine just don't scream plastic is the best idea for something like this.

Maybe for Colorado too (not sure how cold it gets there), but especially up here in the frozen north. That engine is going from -35c (-31f) to running temperature, then back down to -35c again, for large chunks of the winter.

we're not quite that bad, but yeah, often well below freezing.
