I hope so, but doubt it:

- Selecting HD tow removes eLSD and visa versa.
- HD tow is cheaper than the eLSD which is illogical if HD tow is a super-set.
- eLSD is not mentioned in the HD tow detail description.

So that would be a logically consistent error :angels25:

The fact you can select eLSD and then FX4 (which includes eLSD) is not an error actually. It deducts the eLSD separate $1100 price when you select FX4 (but as you must then take the 301A package the price still goes up, cloaking this perhaps unless you watch the exact dollar amounts).
Hmm... And I see the price of the HD tow package is now only $800 and includes no mention of the eLSD. And yet the 2021 trailer towing guide (google it) still requires the 3.73 rear axle for the >6000lb tow rating...

Didn’t know that change was made.
Rear Locker>2WD
4WD>Rear Locker
4WD w/ locker>4WD

I’d take 4x4 Low myself if it’s between the two, but I launch a boat so that’s why. LOW is wanted if you do anything that requires high torque multiplication or crawling. Launching a boat, sand, etc all call for 4x4 low because excessive wheel spin will get you into trouble.

Side note I got my Expedition stuck in a ditch going to a buddies cabin about 2 weeks ago. I wished I had a locker then to at least try. It my have not been enough as I was buried and sideways, but who knows. 4x4 Low was the only mode that let the truck move, but it just went back and forth in the ditch I couldn’t turn out of it. 4 auto and 4 High did absolutely nothing, 4 low moved the truck back and forth. So something is to be said for the low range, not sure if it was the gearing reduction or the programming.

@shane_th_ee / @JExpedition07 - I updated my previous reply, but it probably crossed your two replies:

UPDATE/EDIT: Actually indeed it is an error. Looking at some actual window stickers, you can get HD tow with also taking eLSD.

In fact I could not find a single car without eLSD when HD tow was present. If indeed so, then the website error is that HD tow and eLSD are listed as mutually exclusive, when in fact they should probably work like the FX4 package where HD tow should be priced at 1100+795.

But either way the website is wrong as my prefered dealership has a Limited with both HD tow and eLSD, and I saw various others in my area with other dealerships.

I was busy hunting down window stickers, just like you. Like you, every vehicle I saw with the HD tow package also had the 3.73 eLSD (with the 3.73 eLSD listed as a separate option).

These modern super trick modes vehicles its a fair guess the transfer case in 4low also gets some type of center elocking logic sort of a modern version of the old center locker on the Toyotas which does make a large difference over basic 4x4.

I have never used 4L launching or retrieving my boat. I have launched on some pretty sketchy ramps and off beaches. Do you have a monster boat with a huge draft? I love using the locker at the ramp. My last four vehicles have had it. Comes right out with very little spin if any. Engages and disengaged easily and while moving. But I have a small 24’ runabout and don’t have to even get my bumper in the water.

@Bo Simmons the non-fixed running boards, folding side mirrors, forward sensors and the a bit nicer interior. It is all a matter of taste of course.

In essence the Limited 300 package is what I'd like, but if the price is good I may even do the Stealth package, despite that moonroof. Ever since I had this expensive non-warranty claimable leaking sliding roof window (for which fortunately Ford waived the cost almost completely) my appetite for the roof-window has gone to "dont use - dont care" to "rather not". But that Stealth package does look nice ...

I hate sunroofs with a passion, but have learned to live with it for the superior vehicle that’s under it.

the stealth is cool and gets you the ccd and better wheels. I got the SE that named me those two things along with the tow package. Find a way to max out the value around you and the sunroof is no big deal. I forget I even have the stupid thing since the innner liner covers so well.

Fyi the expedition doesnt have a locker it has electronic limited slip. The superduty and f150 get electronic locker . There is a difference. Another forum member was looking at swapping the locker carrier into the expedition rear independant axle center section. It boils down to not easy to do

Nope.

As per the manual for the 2020 Expedition:
Locking Function

me0pomQ.jpg The lock button engages ‘locker mode’.

With the locker engaged, the system electronically locks the differential causing both half shafts to turn at the same rate. This increases traction during off road events.
The locker mode may automatically disengage based on certain conditions such as vehicle speed. When engaged, a telltale in the instrument cluster will illuminate amber and the switch button will be illuminated. When the speed is exceeded the telltale will turn gray, the locker will be disengaged and be in standby mode until the speed conditions are met. If the eLSD system is faulted and the locker cannot engage, a warning message will be displayed in the instrument cluster and the switch button will flash.
