Anybody get the P0430 code? “Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 2”. I’ve gotten it about 5 times now. Always clears and goes about week or so. No problem driving or engine issue. Have to get it in. I’ve been to the dealer with my other issue about 8 times now. A couple of my preset AM stations won’t stay preset. It’s been escalated to Ford Engineering. I have the only Expedition ever built that has this problem I’m told. Tired of going in. Now my left side step is acting up. 22K miles 2019. And a few rear end clunks yesterday. Love this vehicle but some chinks in the armor are appearing.

If you're near a Ford dealer I would have them look at it the next time you get the P0430 code. Could be a cat going bad or defective with such low mileage on it. Or you can drop it off there and tell them you've had it at least 5 times now and they can test it. But if you're getting that code they're going to replace the Cat on that side (driver's side). It's covered under their emissions warranty

Note that Cat performance is monitored with the downstream O2 sensors. The O2 sensors look for too much or too little O2 in the in the exhaust exiting the cats. Too much O2 means too lean, Too little O2 means too rich. So possible root causes include various types of combustion malfunction (which you should notice driveability and fuel economy wise) such as lean misfire, exhaust backfire, leaking injector causing overly rich mixture, etc. Often, these would come along with other codes. The P0430 code alone would tend to indicate a problem with the cat (manufacturing defect - which I would consider highly unlikely) or with the O2 sensor itself (or related wiring/connections) manufacturing or damage issue, which I would consider more likely.

Either way, having a knowledgeable dealer (good luck with that one) look at it as soon as it trips would be a good idea. If it is some sort of rich combustion situation, it can indicate imminent cat meltdown (bad = expensive). If it was mine and the dealer couldn't definitively nail it down, I would ask to have the downstream O2 sensors replaced and see what happens.

I unfortunately have been having these a lot lately but it's because I replaced my downpipes with Catted ones and apparently the Carb requirements for monitoring are so strict now that aftermarket CATs generally trip the codes. The manufacturer of the cats are sending me something to help hopefully get rid of the issue. But also remember that the 0420 and 0430 codes create a "permanent" code which means they don't go away even with a code scanning tool. They persist over a duration of time, until the system resets them during enough positive cycles. I say that because your dealer will find the codes on the ECU for a long time. Additionally, if you use the fordpass app, you'll get notifications from that as well, which you can show your dealer. One thing to double check on too, is part availability. With CATs being stolen so much lately, and supply chain issues, you might run into parts availability issues.

My issues were 100% resolved with the O2 Sensor extensions from SPD. I will say, anyone going for the SPD downpipes, just ask them to send the extensions from the beginning. They were nice quality, that's for sure.

They don't have them on their site, you'll need to call them. but the company is https://www.spdperformance.com/index.php?route=common/home.

But doing a quick google search for "o2 sensor extension" produces tons of products that look very similar.

Hello how are you ?

Will you have a photo of the sensor extension? I put what you say on Google and many extensions appear, I entered the specification of my 2020 Ford Expedition car and many photos appear

thank you
