Hi:

We have a 2023 Expedition Timberline with the Timberline High (501A) equipment group.

On the BMW X5 that we traded in for the Timberline the camera feature was really nice- it turned on (and off) automatically when one was moving forward very slowly.

On the Ford it’s kinda klunky:
  • First, one has to touch the car icon on the 15.5” LCD screen. The screen defaults to the Tow mode (and we rarely tow/need this).
  • Then next you have to hit the camera icon to get out of Tow mode and into Camera mode. All this LCD touching has the potential to take one’s eyes off the real environment when parking.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there any way to set the camera to come on automatically at slow forward speeds (when pulling into a parking space) like the BMW had and prevent all this LCD interaction?

Many thanks!

No, sadly.

Oh well.

Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your experience and expertise, tho.

IDK if any Ford folks are reading this forum, but, if you are, here is an easy safety enhancement that would take one of your software coders a half day max to implement; as far as I can tell, this idea has all upsides and no downsides.

Thanks again.

Mine comes on automatically. You just have to get a little closer than you think you need to at first. Once I got used to / comfortable with the distance it feels normal. I have a ‘22 Limited with Sync 4a

Dont you need the 360 for that to work? My 21’ F150 does what you’re speaking of. My wife’s Expy (19’ max XLT) only has rear camera and the pre-collision warning and it does not warn you that you’re about to hit something unless going higher speeds.

Not yet available, the most updated version of Sync 4a, I believe 4.5.2, but could be wrong, includes a camera icon next to the "truck" on the top left that initiates the 360 camera. Our trucks have not yet been updated to that version yet.
