Hi y'all.

So The Dutchman's door locks are not unlocking with the remote or the door unlock/lock buttons except once in a blue moon. The click sound is there but the locks don't move...is this a fuse or something else entirely? It did this only a little bit when I first bought this thing back in '17 but now it's pretty much stopped unlocking/locking completely except when I manually lock it by pushing the locks down.

I want to check the fuses but the power fuses are in the engine and the manual says I need to disconnect the battery before messing with the power fuse box. I hate disconnecting my battery because it screws with my entire electrical system so I just wanted to know if I for sure have to disconnect that bloody battery...I'm guessing I do but I wanted to ask the more experienced before I started doing stuff that may get me electrocuted...

Advice?

The first generation door lock actuator motors are notorious for failing. I've replaced all four of them in many a Ford from that era. I pay about $40 for decent ones. They're a pain to install, but after the first the other three go quick. Shops around here get $300 each if you can't do it yourself.

I've actually never used the keypad on my door--just the remote or manually pushing the locks down or the lock button on the inside of the driver and front passenger door.

In my 01 the rear actuators stopped working because the 1/4 inch rivets holding them to the door failed. You need the two rivets, the rivet tool and a drill. Tip don't remove the actuators from the spring steel saddle . Keep it assembled when you rivet the actuators back into the door.

The code for the door lock is usually the zip code of the dealer that first took delivery or may be found on the receiver module label itself. Unless of course it was changed.

WHAT? Totally not true
Joe you shouldn't smoke and post:smokin:

The original number given the truck doesn't change. To do so you would have to change out the whole module. Which never is the problem.(and in no way has anything to do with a zip code) You can program up to 5 numbers of your choosing. But the original number will always work.

That is default code for my 01 and is what dealer told me. Do you even know where yours was first delivered?

yes I know the whole history of my truck and that zip code not it. In fact out of 6 different vehicles that I know the original code none are zip codes at all.

Your dealer must have used one of the five programable numbers to put in the zip code. The original number is on the unit itself. It comes from factory with credit card that has the original code.
Did you ever see the credit card with the original code? Or look at the unit to get the code off it?

You can find the keypad code for your truck up under the dash on the drivers side of the truck. its on a large white sticker.

Good to know. I was going to be lazy today but now I'm going out to screw around with The Dutchman. Went a couple scrapyards yesterday and found some replacement cosmetic parts (local car wash ripped off my front passenger door trim a few weeks ago ). Plus new knobs for my lumbar support and my headlights and my replacement dome light bulbs should be here today.

To get the code, you must remove the passenger side kick panel. Behind that, you will find the smart fuse panel. You must remove the screws that hold it and look on the back of it. There you will find the code. I just partially removed it and used a mirror and took a picture with my phone. It's been awhile and I don't remember if the screws were tamper-proof Torx or not. But I have the code now and I can unlock my doors if the battery in the remote fails or if I lose my keys. (2009 Expy EL)

I had issues with my 1997 door locks and child proof switches. Turns out after lubricating the heck out of them they ALL work as normal again. Try that first before spending money.

Good advice on lubricating the locks. I will try that. I have a 2000 EB with 330K miles that I've had since new. I never carry the fob and use the key pad about a third of the time. Usually I just use the key and hit the button on the inside if I need to open more doors. Three of the four door locks seem to work regularly. One door lock and the tailgate lock work when they want to. I either hit the unlock button a couple more times to get those to work or just use my key in the tailgate. I agree that the dealer programmed in the dealer's zip code as one of the six programmable codes. The original codes are random. The dealer did that for the dealer's convenience while the truck was on the lot. They should have removed that code before they delivered the vehicle. I am also a regular at my local junkyard. One of the benefits of owning an older vehicle besides lower taxes and insurance is being able to pick up parts in a junkyard. My exact Expy was there for a while but I can usually find what I need from some of the other first gens in there. There is never anything in there for my wife's '11 XLT Plus, but she rarely needs anything. Junkyards where you do your own picking are wonderful places. Junkyards where they do the picking, not so much.
