05 dvd flip down problem

just bought truck, has factory rear flip down dvd player, doesnt turn on when dvd goes in but able to put in dvd and eject dvd, checked relay fuse was good, it has after market radio in front dash, not factory radio that will let you push dvd player button i was told.. anybody have any solutions , I would really appreciate anything. new to this forum , need help . thanks
