Well, my mileage since I drove it home 38K + miles ago. The pic isn't great but I set this not 5 miles from the dealer on my way home the night I bought it.

Pretty good considering I drive a bit aggressively.

Fyi; commute is 92 miles round trip....24 red lights in each direction.

Averaging 42 mph, that’s pretty good for a 4x4 rolling around in 4A. Call me impressed.

Well dang now I'm disappointed I just drove from Corpus Christi to Laredo Texas and back in my 2007 with a 5.4 in it and all I got was 16.4

I often drive in 4A as well just because...Right now I’m averaging 16.0 even. I have broken into the 18+ MPG range when I do a lot of highway driving. Can’t complain the truck achieves EPA ratings and I’m not a feather foot.

Had my 16 since the beginning of 2018. Getting 17 with mixed driving. Couple times pulling the boat. I'm satisfied after coming from a gen 2.

Thanks guys....it hit 17.9 around 20K ago....took forever to get the last tenth....but those occasional trips to the "ton" will cause that to happen ...apparently! It's kind of cool b/c it's the first vehicle that has kept track of elapsed ?? avg mileage for this many miles. The top readout resets every 10K for those that don't have very many miles yet (Andy)! The hour meter is a neat feature allowing as others noted, other data to be extrapolated!

As far as the 4A....I don't buy a lot of over-30K cars like some of you guys and my SLK is probably the most expensive cars I've bought outside the required loaded T&C minivan for the OB (old bit..) years ago but I didn't buy a 50K truck to skimp on how I operate it. I want it to always be in a position to use all the available features designed to either protect my truck from damage, or me!

There's a reason I'm a single guy(15 yrs) driving trucks built for a family....to most it makes no sense but it's mostly all because I don't want to be hurt in an accident, EVER! My car has Aramco barriers in the doors and the cockpit has been compared to the one on the Warthog....and my truck is 5800 pounds of steel & tech wrapped around me....yup, I'm good!

It's kind of ironic that I've always had a phobia (not quite) about being in a bad car wreck....yet road raced bikes for a couple of years<LOL>

I totally get it. I have a family that fills it occasionally but most of my miles are my commute solo. I was hurt in an accident in January and still feel it.

4A is RWD 99% of the time.

And with all the highway miles he drives- I'm not surprised at the average economy.

So I checked that on mine when I bought it and it didn't have the full history but about 6k miles on it and it was over 18. Now after me putting about 1k miles on it is dropping and is in the 17s. They put new Michelin Defender tires. I love them. I think they will last a LONG time. They are quiet, smooth and everything you want in a tire etc.., but they are soooo heavy I think they are killing the MPG. I easily got much better MPG in the first expedition I drove that had original tires.

What octane?

Got my 17 used with around 28,000 miles on it. I am impressed with the gas mileage I was getting with 87. I traded in a 2007 Sequoia that was averaging around 14mpg. In the same kind of driving, I'm getting 17.8mpg.

I recently switched to 93 octane to see what difference it makes.

I only use 93, have since new. I'm not a slow driver but I also don't shock my truck....in other words, I will accelerate quickly from a standing or rolling start but I never "stomp it", jerking every single stresspoint, suspension bushing and damper....I don't want to turn it into a rattle trap.

I don't stress over mileage because I don't pay for fuel....so I don't drive it like I'm trying to get 25mpg or something....nope, I drive it! I'm just reporting to your guys, what it's getting.

my '03 averaged 13mpg for the same loop, the '99 only slightly better.

and yeah Habb...I took one camping in 105 temps so I left it run for hours on end for the kids.....and me, ok....and I burned nearly two tanks while sitting still over the 10 days!!

Your 03 got worse than the 99’? I thought they’d be the same both being old 2 valve 5.4s with 4 speeds. The 3 valve 5.4L/ 6 speed combo really made the difference I guess. Ive never dropped below 15 MPG.

Yes, the '99 was a Signing bonus from Limbach (Thanks Charlie) so it was nearly new and ran great. The '03 was bought with more miles and it never ran as strong as the '99.

Aramco barriers....the same thing you see as guardrails...yeah, THAT stuff. A friend of mine watched as a F250 t-boned his car at over 50mph as he was following his wife home from their dealer....she got out, unhurt by opening the opposite door. Her door had only moved in 1 inch.
