I have a 2000 expedition. It has a4wd,4hi, and 4lo. I can drive the truck in 4hi and 4lo without problem. When I put it in a4wd is acts normal in park or neutral. As soon as I shift into reverse or drive there is a repeated clunking noise accompanied with a slight lunging. The ford dealer said i needed a new Tcase. I installed one myself and it did not fix the problem. Is there a problem with my hubs, or differential? Please help. Thanks

Weird... Sounds to me as if it is cycling the 4wd clutch on and off. Do you think this may be happening?? Not sure what would cause that other than the GEM or computer?

Try pulling fuse # 104 to disable the system. Stuck with 2wd while fuse is out.

In A4wd, when the computer senses wheel slip (rear) it will engage 4wd. Thats kinda what it sounds as if it may be doing... repeatedly. Need to see/hear a video of it happening.

slip is detected by the ABS system
diffrent size tires can cause this
mixing old and new tires too

When I pull the 104 fuse the symptoms go away. But I still dont know what to fix. When I have the truck in the air in drive the L front spins and the r front is still. The right wheel moves only 4 or 5 inches in each direction. It only starts to clunk when the break is applied in drive.

If its in the air while its doing this... its likely normal..it will sense slip and cause issues. Does it do it while all 4 wheels are on the pavement?

Yup same thing It just jumps and clunks on the pavement. When the problem first happened i was truning hard left and going very slow. Then it stoped. One mile later the front end completely locked up and I came to a screeching halt. While checking relays and fuses I must have done something because my front blower stoped working. Does anyone know what fuse number the front ac/heat blower is? the rear works fine.

I had to replace my differential because when i would turn and low speeds it would lock up and jump a little. Only when turning at low speeds. I am full time A4wd.
