Hello Everyone,
My family and I traveled from Colorado to Boston, in our 05 expedition. Son is having surgery at Childrens hospital. On our way here the a/c went out somewhere in Iowa. We got to davenport and took it to a ford dealer. They said compressor blew up, so they replaced compressor and dryer and a couple lines, and flushed the front system but not the back. To the toon of I don't even wanna say. lol The said the back would be ok because the pressures where ok when the recharged it. And it would take another day and a lot more money to flush the back. Ok sure, blowing cold so we took off again on our way to newyork it went out again. No good. :flamingdevil:

Now we're in boston and trying to get it fixed again, the compressor is cycling on and off, and just by cracking the schrader valves on the high and low side. There seems to be hardly any pressure on the low side, and a great deal of pressure on the high side. So without any gauges with me 1900 miles away from home, this tells me that there is a restriction some where? Like the orfice tube or expansion valve?

So I took It to a shop down the street from the Hospital, and there telling me that the dash has to come out to get to the blend door. That it's not working right. I didn't really by that because when you turn it to hot it gets hotter, and when turn it down it gets a little cooler not much but a little. I asked to see pressures but the guy that did the diagnose's was not there at the time. They're not really liking the restriction idea because it holds a vacuum, witch I think it would ether way.

I can't think of reason for the dash to come out, besides a plugged or leaking evaporator. Is there anything else in the dash related to the a/c? I don't really want them to rip apart the dash for a no reason it just doesn't seem like the problem. So any advice would be grateful! Am i missing anything?

Also wanted to mention that this expedition is a limited with dual auto climate control. A/c seats and rear a/c if that helps at all.

Welcome to the site.....

Check with Ford on what the warranty covers concerning what dealers you can go to for coverage. There are Ford Customer Service reps that monitor the site so I would expect them to see this.

When a compressor pukes it will trash the system. Worse case is replacing the evaps and condenser since they can hold minute amounts of trash even after flushing. That will take out a new compressor once they get back into the refrigerant.

Do not crack the valves - against the law for one & helps trash the ozone layer in the process. Plus it doesn't fix the problem.

I would expect the orifice tube is plugged in order to get high readings.
As far as a restriction goes, it will hold a vacuum if both high and low sides are open when the vac pump runs. But it will cause high pressure on the high side, low pressure on the low side once the system is running.

Concerning the dash removal, might be correct on that. According to the Ford diagram the blend door actuator appears to be in the middle of the plenum.

Thanks for the welcome!
i would think the rear would be cold if the system was moving freon and the compressor would not be cycling and just staying on. This makes me think the it's not the front blend door. Also I can't get into a ford dealer around hear at the moment with the holiday and being back upped to the 13th. So in order to get this going I need to take it to an independent shop. My concern was just with the first shop diagnosing the wrong problem.

I'm going to try a different shop monday, just wanted to get some more ideas going through my head, I would hate for them to tear it apart and not be the problem. Might run and buy some gauges to get a better idea myself as we're waiting on my son to recover.

So it was the expansion valve's both of them front and rear. The front one you don't have to remove the dash it's on the passenger fire wall behind the computer. And the rear is deep in the back, the evaporator. If any one was wondering.
