I have a great local shop and they don't fit the picture you just painted.

Even though it may seem (especially now) like the entire world is corrupt, there are good & honest people out there. Of course, they know if they can keep my BEATER on the road for reasonable expense then they will continue to get my business - so they have skin in the game other than just being honest & hard working. Just did them on my 07. Didn't break any.
I ran Seafoam in the gas for 1/2 tank.
Drove truck till good and warm.
Blew everything iut from plug holes with air.
Sprayed PB Blaster into the holes and let sit fir 2 hours.
Blew holes out again.
Fired truck up and let idle till warm.
Pulled the Coil packs one at a time.
Turned the plug 1/4 turn back and forth.
PB Blaster again.
Blew out with air again.
Plugs all came out without breaking.

Note: I did buy the special 9/16" socket tool because I didn't like how my extension want staying down because plug was in the way. The socket tool works great and helps with correct angle during removal.

My plugs have NEVER been changed. 179k miles.

Did you crack the plugs open a bit before adding the PB the first time? Congrats on the removal. I added 2 cans of seafoam ($1 at a garage sale) to 1/8 tank and ran it hard for a week first. Pictures of my plugs are in a former thread. You need that real plug socket or at lease tape a socket to an extension.

That hose trick works well for both removing the plugs once loosened and for starting the new ones. 3/8 fuel line, about 6" long. Just stick it over the porcelain and out they come.

But you have to center it over the plug, push, and hope it goes on. The real plug socket simply lifts them out.............get one!

I have a plug socket. I have them in 19mm, 15mm, 13/16, 9/16 and other assorted sizes.. On these engines the deep well makes it so you literally CANNOT MISS with the fuel line trick. Works better than the plug socket.

Yours is worn out then because mine plucks them out every time and I don't have to stop and mess with a piece of tubing.

It was a hint for those who don't have one or otherwise don't consider themselves to be master mechanics.

And the tubing is easier to deal with than the plug sockets which are always either too loose or too tight.

Yea, it's a good trick in a pinch but the sockets don't cost much. I got one one ebay before pulling my plugs this time because I didn't have that little 9/16" one and glad I did. I agree they get worn out but it's too bad they don't sell just that rubber part or maybe it can be reconditioned somehow. I never had one that was too tight.

Stick a piece of hose in the socket. That works. But I found the hose trick to be easier than the socket for those deep wells on the 5.4. Don't slam it if you haven't tried it.

Of course it works but the socket is already there and it's another step messing with a hose............no brainer.

Ya know, I normally get about 300k miles out of my vehicles. I have a lot of experience maintaining them. I come on this site both to learn more about my vehicle and to occasionally help others who may need it. I do not come on to engage in endless back and forth or flaming. Almost everyone knows about the tubing trick but why mess with that when you can have a decent socket for a few bucks and use it over and over? My plug socket plucks them out every time so to me that was just a bum steer for everyone. You can have the last word again.

I personally think the "special" socket is more for centering on the plug as well as being just a tad longer/deeper. Keeping it straight is crucial to not breaking the plug.
And Im certainly no Master Mechanic. So ya know!
