Low fuel light on. Stopped at gas station to fill tank, once filled fuel gauge showed 3/4 full. After about twenty minutes gauge finally went to full. Operation seems normal now. Anyone else seeing this?

Sounds like early signs of the fuel pump failing.

Try two consecutive treatments of Techron Fuel System Cleaner (prior name was Fuel System Cleaner PLUS) according to label directions. It is sold in 12 and 20

The cleaner removes sulfur deposits from the in-tank sending unit, which can cause erratic fuel gauge readings.

GM and Chrysler sell the product under their own brand name, which is made by Techron, for this problem. GM has issued several TSB’s instructing dealers to try this method when receiving complaints of erratic fuel gauge readings.

The deposits seem to form more often when using non Top Tier fuel.

I've had that off & on over the years on my 2003. Was told sulpher buildup on float sensor in tank. I do not know if your year has a similar float sensor. I always ignore it and it goes away.

How could a fuel pump cause this?

Was the ignition off when you filled it? If the key was on when you fueled, it's normal for it to take a long time to rise.

Thanks for all the help on this

A) I started the Techron Fuel System Cleaner procedure. I have yet to get thru one full tank but will post result

B) yes, I did have the car running as I was filling the tank...I probably do that 80% of the time, but this is the first experience with the gauge being slow. Moving forward, I will turn car off.

Thanks again for taking time to post suggestions

I'm putting in a vote for the fuel level sender as the culprit. I've had the issue for 4 years and don't give it much thought now.

Everyone else filling up at your gas station will thank you for turning your vehicle off while filling like the signs on the pump request you to.

FIXED...!!!!

A) Techron Fuel System Cleaner procedure. Two tanks

B) I kept car turned off while refueling

gauge works perfect. Thanks for all the help....!!!
Maybe the Techron did something, or maybe just running 2 tanks through was all it took.
I know in my case it would come and go. Went years ago and stayed gone.

Reminds me of the chiropractor. Go in for a few visits where they work on "sublimations" and make your back crack and pop. Maybe it does something or maybe it just went away naturally like most pains do.

Sorry, I'm just a skeptic.

Techtron worked for me too, my last 2007 would never show full until a long time after filling. Sometimes would not go past 3/4 period. Ran a tank of TechTron through and it was fixed.

I have a similar problem, but I've replaced my pump and sender unit twice. Fuel gauge still shows 1/4 full and 0 miles left to refill! I personally don't have a problem, but it's my wife's primary transportation and she hasn't learned to drive by miles driven like I did with a 1960 VW! Could this be a computer problem? Thanks!
