with superchargers it takes power to make power, and turbos have more potential to me

Thats a ford vs chevy argument.. with turbos you have to wait for them to spool and you loose torque from lower compression ratio..''

the super charger makes more sense in a heavy truck :imo: cause torque is needed and with the supercharger you hit the gas and boost is there.

on another note you can't compare diesel to gas the compression ratio is way higher and the internals are much stronger..

Its an argument that nobody will win and can go for ever. To each his own.

Its kinda like exhaust, your supposed to get better MPG but we all romp it pretty good negating that theory, same with forced induction! It will save on gas if you don't romp on it but who the hell is going to put a SC on there truck and not get on it?

Some of the new twin Turbo setups have virtually no lag! But I'm more of a supercharger kind of guy at heart. Kind of like automatic transmission in a racecar once upon a time was frowned upon now it can shift more efficiently than any standard transmission

with all the computer controlled carparts from electronic controlled variable vain turbos to electronically controlled transmissions, Its all faster without the human control. We are becoming obsolete. Hell, even the computers we use are starting to figure out what we want to type before we even type it.

I actually perfer a good old fashioned Naturally Aspirated v8. I feel a natural aspirated engine is more reliable based on a personal experience. (Background info: My first vehicle was a Suburban that my mom gave me with the 5.3, two weeks later it was totaled by some lady that fell asleep behind the wheel. SO I bought a used Volvo v70 Turbo to use while I looked for another truck, only I didn't buy one a few weeks later as I had planned. It took me 10 months to have enough. you see, my Volvo was incrediably stinky and had so many problems with the engine that it pretty much cleaned me out. The mechanic I took it to said that Forced Induction really wears out an engine and causes things to fail alot quicker. Whether or not that is the case with ford, that Volvo has turned me away from turbos.)

WOW! it was getting mileage i get when im empty when it was full. that sucks for the eco boost right there. then again why would you by a v6 if your going to tow regularily? if you ever plan on towing something that heavy might as well get the SOHC 6.2 l with 16 spark plugs! did anyone know that besides me? 16 freaking spark plugs! haha good thing they arnt the 2 piece plugs like the 3v 5.4s came with. haha but either way the eco boost is a good engine if your just cruisin around town and going to work. i still wouldnt mind one. but again the 6.2 tt would be freaking nice too. haha

I tow a 35' camper about once a month between April and November. When I am towing, I just assume I am going to get crappy MPG's regardless of whether my tow vehicle has a v8, turbo v6, diesel, etc. So for 16 days out of the year, I suck it up and accept single digit MPG's.

The issue is the other 349 days that I drive. The ecoboost makes perfect sense for a guy like me who commutes 40 miles a day, 5 days a week in a Expedition EL. A bigger V8 would not work. Diesel wouldn't either since dieseline in my area is between 25 and 40 cents more per gallon of regular gas.

Personally, I would be one of the first to buy an Ecoboost Expedition EL. But for the love of God, PLEASE give me decent tow mirrors!

On a somewhat related note, I read in the latest issue of Motor Trend that Lincoln is making a concerted effort to go green and will be offering the Ecoboost in the Navigator for 2013 when the model is re-freshed. Who knows.... maybe the same will happen with the Expy.:hmm:

As for diesel costing more it still saves u money. Diesels get so much better fuel milage it more then offsets the cost.

think of it this way. diesel is about 30-40 cents more per gallon than 87 gas. in LA at costco i filled up @ $3.59/g the other day. So if diesel is 35 cents more per gallon its about 10% more. But you are getting about 35% more fuel efficiency from a diesel. So about 25% gain. just another way to look at it. And if im full of sh*t please let me know. BTW i really hope ford brings their diesel fiesta over here from europe. Would love a 65mpg fiesta. http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/08_37/b4099060491065.htm

My buddies got a 2011 F-150 V6 twin-turbo that puts out more horsepower/torque than the V8's.

There's an unproven rumor that goes around saying if you take out the silencers in the turbos you can get 700+ RWHP. He will be trying this once his warranty is over! :hmm:

Im gettin 10.1 mpg in town my friends dads 2001? F250 4wd 4 door long bed with camper and a 7.3 powerstroke gets 21 mpg in town. So ya i can really see the point in not getting a diesel cause the fuel costs more. (Not) o ya he is lifted with 37s and his only mod is 6 in turbo back exhaust.

My brother has a 2011 Dodge Ram 3500 Turbo Diesel. It's fully loaded and he loves the damn thing. Air conditioned seats, air conditioned steering wheel, remote start... the whole nine yards. He also claims he gets about 20MPG average...

if they d get the eco boost its not going to be 22 mpg its going to be more like 18 or 19 on highway, maybe 20

Why do you say that? In My 2007 I got 20.8 driving from Vegas to L.A.

about 19 mpg going from L.A. to Vegas, both trips doing about 75mph.

it can only get better.
