I read the comparison as well, looks like i made a great decision, if the fx4 won out so much, a platinum wouldve blew away the others lol.

Just read on Jalopnic that Ford has temporarily "banned" employees from ordering/purchasing 2018 Expeditions/Navigators, and as GTNator mentioned another $25M on Kentucky truck plant to increase production! Goes on to say Expy retail sales are up 59% in January, 132% for Navigator.

A lot of dealers in NY haven’t been able to get a single 2018 on the lot yet to even see, my dealer is the only one that seems to have gotten one. So this month expy sales are up, that’s good. ford lost a lot of ground in just about every category except for full size vehicles, the hot auto cycle we have been in is hitting its bubble and a correction is coming soon. Prices have maxed out and sales are falling across the board for just about everyone, soon we should see price drops on everything when it corrects.

the doors harder to close is hardly a negative!!! that means it is solid and airtight. i love the door sound!! it was one of the first things my 13 year old daughter noticed. when she got in and shut the doors, she said ooh, that sounds nice!!! im sure it will fair well in years to come as rubber relaxes, etc.

Funny, when I rented a 2018 Expy for two weeks, I didn't even notice it. It just felt good.

motor trend official 0-60 times

expedition fx4 6.2
cadillac escalade platinum AWD 5.9

not to shabby!!!

Those GM L86 powertrains are not a joke, things whip you back in your seat!! 6.2 is still super fast on the ford!

The doors do close hard. I keep getting the warning light telling I did not close the drivers door properly..
You have to really slam them. My grandkids can't really do it..

My biggest beef with the motor trend review: "Our invite criteria was pretty simple: three rows of seats inside, a minimum towing capacity of 7,000 pounds, four-wheel drive, and a $65,000 price cap, which, shockingly, is about the average transaction price for this segment." And then they went and reviewed a Z71 Tahoe. Since when does the Z71 trim give you a 7000lb towing capacity? And if they really meant 6000lb towing capacity, I would've really liked to see them include the new Discovery...

Discovery? Why, it doesn’t compete with these vehicles at all. It is a more competitor for the Explorer, Traverse, Acadia

'Cause it'll tow >8000lbs and is available with skid plates, a two speed transfer case and a locking rear differential. Will an Acadia or Explorer check any of those boxes? I certainly cross shopped it.

Then it would clearly win against its “like” competitors! But to put it against these full size SUVs doesn’t make sense. It is tiny on the inside. When we were shopping for midsize, we drove one, and the $55k explorer beat it in every category, except obviously towing, which at the time, I don’t think it did, as they didn’t offer the diesel out of the gate. That 3rd row is good until 5th grade at best!!!

Good review. I’m surprised the aging 5.6L in the armada is quicker, didn’t expect that good for Nissan. It’s nice to see a review that doesn’t want it to be an AWD crossover. I really dislike most automotive journalists anyway, all they think about is the then and now. they disregard a lot that is important, but this was an honest decent review.

I’m also glad they didn’t pick on handling and understand it’s a truck based SUV. They liked the handling and space for rear passengers. Some reviewers forget this and want a crossover and it makes me facepalm.

to say it is quicker is slightly misleading. in the beasts of burden review this was stated. "the Armada ties the Expedition’s 0–60 run and quarter-mile time but is going slightly faster, at 94.0 mph, as it passes by the quarter-mile mark."

so while in its most basic form the statement "the armada is quicker" is true, it should be accompanied with the above statement.

i would also go as far to say, it is NOT quicker, but faster through the 1/4 mile traps.

i wonder how the Platinums extra torque and HP would fair in the competition?

To be fair they are dead even. I believe Car and Driver says the Nissan Armada is 0-60 in 6.2 seconds, while the expy is 6.2 seconds. I’d still take the ford even if it was 5 seconds slower. By the same token if it’s against a platinum the Infiniti QX80 with the higher output 5.6 should be used as it’s priced to compete.

My gut tells me the extra torque and HP might not make as much of a difference in the quarter mile as the standard rear differential.

Meaning what? Do you think the standard rear diff is faster or slower?
