2025 Ford Expedition ads.
I have never seen an actual 2025 Expedition but when I was thinking about buying one, the on-line Ford site had all around and interior pictures of the 2025. They also had a few videos showing how all the new stuff gadgets work including the new clam-shell tailgate, 24" wide instrument cluster (non-touch) and the center touch screen too. I hated that the instrument cluster controls were run by LH & RH thumb joystick like things on the steering wheel. (no buttons). I also didn't like that the grille was all black, the wheels were all black, the upper tailgate was some High-Gloss "Shiney Black" thing below the glass (on every Expedition, no matter what color the body is). I guess that I am old school and I still do like some chrome and shine on the Expy but NOT all Black stuff that looks OK clean but terrible when (even a little) dirty/dusty. The last thing that we DIDN'T like, need or want (for an additional $4500) was if you wanted EcoBoost you had to buy AWD. We live in CA and just don't need it! We bought a 2024 Expy Limited that we sure love!
As for the 2025 clamshell 2-piece tailgate, that was a deal killer for us. If you are loading heavy groceries or almost anything heavy (like suitcases &/or boxes) w/ the upper tailgate open & the lower tailgate closed, you have to lift anything/everything to shoulder height to place it up & over the bottom tailgate and down into the cargo area floor. If you have the upper tailgate open and up & the lower tailgate open and down (like a station wagon tailgate used to be), you have to reach out 2 feet over it with heavy groceries 2 feet out in front of you, (over the lowered & level bottom tailgate) to be able to sit them down onto the cargo area floor. As both my wife and I get older, reaching out front & in 2 feet, is a back breaker. Reaching up and over at shoulder height is HARD on old, worn out & painful shoulders. Who thinks of these things? With our 2024 Expy, you stand at the rear bumper and the rear hatch is up high enough to walk under easily. You can then swing the heavy groceries bags right out of the shopping cart (sitting near the rear bumper also) into the cargo area floor easily. Then, the same easy removal, while easily unloading too.
When we were younger, we had an 1988 Ford Station wagon and that was a back breaker for my 5'4", 100# wife, even back then. When we bought our first Expy in 2012 my wife was so very pleased that they had changed to the full rear hatch like the 2024's are still made now. All these things are the reason we went searching for a 2024 and bought a Limited so that we DIDN'T have to have the mandatory Platinum, 15" digital center screen and the ugly Platinum flat-spoke wheels (12 spokes are so much more attractive, to us).
Anyway, that's my 2 cents on those 2025 Expy's. - Don't want one! Lance
