3rd row auto seat - broken, need help

Greetings! I am a new (used) 2004Expedition owner!! Bought this used as bigger vehicle to safely carry our family and loving it thus far.

The 3rd row auto seat (drivers side) will not budge when hitting the auto button. Sounds like the gearing in the motor is stripped. I contacted my mechanic and to replace everything I'm looking at a $900 motor and full mechanism.

Has anyone else had this problem and have any advice or is replacing the entire mechanism the only option?

I remember there being a slot you could turn to manually raise/lower it. At least it would let you decide if you want it full up or full down.
