Hi Everyone I'm new to this forum and I'm having an issue with my 1999 xlt expy. I was going to work the other morning and truck was fine when i stopped for coffe , but when i came out I restarted the truck put in gear and it felt like the four wheel drive low was engaged and the speedometer was reading that i was doing 60mph when i was doing about 5mph. There is no check engine light on and no 4x4 light on. I was reading the chilton manual i have and from the research i have done it leads me to believe a few things maybe going wrong.
1) Vehicle Speed sensor
2) Electronic shifter module
and some other sensors or solenoids that the manual does not decribe very well.

Has anyone experience this issue and what it could be? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Were the rpms normal when you were driving?

Any chance that the carpeting is wet? This can indicate a windshield leak. That leak can cause the GEM to make things act wacky. Is there anything else that operates intermittently?

Did things ever get back to normal?

No wet floor, and the rpms seem normal. I just drove it around the block and the 4x4 light started flashing. when i just started it, i heard clicking in the dash like the noise it makes when you select 4wd. When trying to engage it in 4wd with the selector on the dash the light for 4x4 does not come on and stay on.

We just had some snow and low temps here in pa and put my 97 in 4x4 and heard the clicking sound also, sometimes the 4x4 light would flash with the click and sometimes t would stay steady. I also noticed when in a4wd the light would not come on until after the truck was moving. Idk what it was but i noticed no drivability issues

Have u tryed to disconnect the shift motor under the truck if so u have to plugs under there un plug both give it about 15 minutes then plug them back in see if that will help keep your fingers cross .
