Hey Guys,

Just bought my first Exp. A 1997 4x4 with the 5.4L 2v and an E4OD. Everything was going great until it wasn't. The temp gauge shot from normal operating range to past H. At the same time the red oil and temperature light came on. I quickly shut off the truck and did a restart, everything was back to normal. In checking the temp under the hood everything seemed normal, no bubbling or steam. This did not happen again for a week, but today it is back.

I did some preliminary reading and am going to check the antifreeze overflow first, if it's not that I guess I am hunting down grounds and sensors. What weirds me out is that it is not throwing the CE ( Check Engine) light on. I guess it could be the thermostat, but there is no rhyme or reason in why it would go away on its own so quickly.

Thanks guys. I drove all weekend without being able to replicate the issue. The oil level remained full consistently. I did add about 1/2-3/4 a gallon of antifreeze to the overflow tank. I noticed when I opened the cap a good bit of air pressure hissed out. I found this to be strange since the motor had been sitting all night. Then again, it was 100 degrees in the Florida heat. For now, I will keep on monitoring and look into having sensors on hand for the future.
