Stopped by mechanics, said ABS fault can cause computer to give weird tranny shifts and to try the bearing anyway. He's seen it caused delayed shifts and changing gears because even when it's off the engine control is always active. Kinda think that's BS. Rock Auto denied my cancellation so it's still on the way. We will see what happens but I'm *extremely* doubtful lol. It was dropping in and out of gear randomly today and that wouldn't explain the revving I got before a few shifts today. I am not rebuilding the trans on a soon to be 11 year old truck you know? It is bizarre though, it's been fine since the fluid change and all of a sudden I get ABS and TC lights and it all goes south.

Unplug that abs sensor and see if your trans concern goes away. Maybe it's outputting an odd speed value causing the trans to do weird things. I would imagine unplugging it and seeing no value from it could rectify the trans situation temporally if that's even the cause like your mechanic said it may be.

That's exactly what I'll do in the morning. If it doesn't resolve anything I'm not putting 4 grand for a tranny out you know? Truck is too old to spend that dough.

On a separate note after reading up on the tahoes I'll be staying with ford if I do upgrade. Lots of trans issues and gremlins on both older and newer GMs I was not aware of. I looked at some today and they are nice, but my mechanic said to run like the wind from them. A few people in my family drive them and most have faired ok though.

When I bought the expedition I was actually looking for a Tahoe or suburban. Everyone I found was either cosmetically destroyed or had mechanical issues that I didn't want to deal with. The expedition was pretty much mint with all dealer service records from the day it was new. So far its been pretty much trouble free with the exception of maintenance things, a window regulator, exhaust manifold and IWE's all which were poor ford designs to begin with. I can honestly say that if I was in your position I would put a trans into mine just because its been well taken care of (even before me) and I love it.

Also worth noting when i stepped on the brakes decently hard today when the light was off i got a strong ABS pulse like I'm on ice.

ABS light and TC faults present
Wheel bearing making noise
Pulsing brakes like I'm sliding
Very, and I mean very odd trans behavior I've never gotten.

I've taken great care of this truck and use all OEM parts, not like it's a beater, yet it's acting like one with all this lol. It's been a long hard week due to other things going wrong in life maybe a good night sleep and a better angle of approach and I'll figure it out.

Yeah. I think sometimes you just have to step back, take a deep breath, have some patience, and get a fresh start. There might be an easy solution here, give it a chance.

Tried to disconnect it this morning couldn't fit my arm in there I have to pull the wheel (thanks ford). No time I'll try after work. Anyone know of any better lug nuts?

Why the burning smell? Does the bad bearing get that hot? Or other parts rubbing due to excessive play?
No one answered you on this, but yeah, generally if the bearing gets really bad it can make the camber go out slightly and the rotor will be angled slightly and rub on the brake pads. Bad ABS sensor readings could also cause the computer to pulse that pad more frequently in traction control situations, but surely OP would have noticed that happening.

Yes I'm going to have to replace a bunch I ruin a few every time I pull wheels.

Anyway it's wild but I pulled the plug on the sensors and no more trans shifting problems and it stayed in gear fine. Just waiting on the hub/bearing assembly now

Wow it's a relief to hear that cleared up your trans issue.

Hmmmm. Don't want to be a "Debbie Downer" but I don't think that tranny issue is actually confirmed gone, just responding well to the first dose of medicine?

Whats with the lug nuts? I've never had a problem with a lug nut in my entire life. They come off they go back on. Is that because I use hand tools and not air driven impact wrench?

I'm feeling kinda guilty lately. Drive my 2003 XLT every day, brakes work, blowers work, no plugs blow out, fuse box dry, no trouble lights, no codes, idles smooth, tranny smooth, rear wiper works, doors latch, etc .... (shouldn't have opened my mouth I guess)

the lug nuts are covered with a thin sheet of shiny metal, they are not solid like they look. After some time the metal starts peeling off and then the socket gets stuck on it, sometimes real bad where you have to take a hammer and tap the socket on to get it off then pry it out of the socket.

the replacements I was referring to are solid metal, no sheet metal covering on them to make them look solid

do you think you could supply a link to the ones you found? Would love to replace them. I've found I have better luck with a T-Wrench on these lugs. When I used my gun every few the tin would spin around the lug nut rounding out and I'd have to hammer on the T-wrench anyway. Yea my shop over torques like friggin crazy I've had to mention it a few times.

Oh I totally agree this is a win! Big win too, nice job I think yer gonna get those new hubs installed and put the ABS stuff back together and your win will be cemented into Expo_history. You also called that resistor problem and probably other ones lately. I may have to change my name to MrDD next :)
