Im going to be adding a little juice and some bump in the trunk. Not a system that you can hear bumping blocks away just a little something to make you feel the tunes!

Now has big as these rigs are where the hell is there any spots to hide your Amps? Can you share any hidden spots you have found to do so? Im don’t like the idea of under the seats. To me that’s not hidden and can only cause issues with folding them down or losing adjustment to the driver/passenger seats.

In my case, i gutted out the stock enclosure of the sub.... cut/filed down the plastic that held the 10" sub and mounted 2 amps.

In my 2000 XLT I put my amp and crossovers in the center console armrest.
I had removed the CD changer, so there was plenty of room to fit my Alpine PDX and CDT crossovers.
It is completely hidden and takes up very little usable space and takes away no functionality.
Early Expeditions (97-98?) actually had factory amps in the center consoles for the factory subs (iirc).

There's no amp in the center console in my '97 and its stock, its in the back next to the sub.

Has anyone thought of building a custom box for the stock location of a sub? I would think you could get better and fit a larger sub.
I think that the lack of hidden is the only down fall of a expedition so far. The is nowhere to store crap.

I used the factory sub housing to store my amps and capacitors in there, just had to do some cutting and filing to make it work.

As far as the sub box itself, i had a box made to fit behind the 3rd row seat and the lifgate. I have 4 10" subs back there that hit so damn hard, the side windows are starting to crack...

Here is what I did:

Gutted the cargo pocket (or location of factory sub)
Custom made fiberglass box for this location w/custom grille (sub is a 10" Elemental Designs 11.kv2)
Removed the cd changer from the center console (not compatible with aftermarket head unit)
Installed the PDX 4.150 (bridged 3+4 for sub) and CDT crossovers in the console
Installed 6.5 CDT components in the door with custom made adapter plates
Flush mounted the tweeters to the factory speaker grilles in the front doors
Used Raamat and Ensolite in the doors and rear liftgate

Sounds great, takes up no extra space, 100% stealth install w/factory look

Saved a ton of money by doing lots of research/shopping and installing all myself

Bought fiberglassing/install materials at Home Depot and Autozone, sub direct from ED, amp through ebay, raamat and ensolite direct, CDT comps from woofersetc, used HU from a friend

Let me know if anyone has questions/needs help/wants pics

Hope this helps

I'll try to get some pictures up this weekend.

As far as the difference...the components are 100x better than the stock speakers, the sound deadening made a pretty big difference (both keeping noise out and music in), and I'm overall happy with the sub.

The thing is, I had the 'premium' stock system--not the 'mach'--so I can't compare it to the factory 10".

However, I did have used to have two 12" in subs in a sealed box between the third row and liftgate. Obviously, its not as loud as it used to be, but now I didn't lose any space/function and actually have better quality/range with this sub (as its much better quality than the older system I had).
