I've had this walmart crappy everstart that I really never trusted from the getgo..well today while doing a routine front break job, I put it all back together & wanted to fire it up using power assist to pump the breaks...well it started spazzing out & making a ticking noise just like an old clock under the dash on pass. side..so jumped it off got it running, tested out breaks & came back to try & instantly restart to no avail. Battery is on charger but its only 2 yrs old..has anyine else experienced this..is it more than battery issue? Alternator is about 18 months old..any ideas?..thx

Batteries rarely last any longer these days

You might have had an older one built to last 5 or 10 years previously so you didn't realize

My experience with batteries has been that they have lasted 8 to 10 years.
Most (many) batteries are manufactured by Johnson Controls, or their affiliates, and labeled as directed by the dealers.

Criteria for battery failure can be attributed to corrosion, wiring, or loose connections. Allowing a battery to remain on a low charge can cause premature failure.

Check to confirm that the terminal ends are clean and tight to the posts,
and that the cables are in good condition.

Certainly, batteries can fail early in their life due to poor manufacturing quality
control, but some failures are caused by the poor maintenance. If your vehicle is not used routinely, connect the battery to a maintenance charger.

Most auto stores will provide a free test of the battery. If the battery is suspect,
take it to a store for testing.. A battery requires load testing to determine reliability.

Are you in buy groceries once a week, stay home watch netflix/youtube and don't go anywhere lockdown mode?

I'm not sure if it's the Walmart batteries or the way these trucks are wired, but I've had 2 triton V8 trucks now with maybe 4 or 5 batteries between em....and NONE of em could be trusted to start reliably every time if left sitting for more than 15 days, or on very short once a week grocery runs.

They just run down eventually.

PS recharging USUALLY helps, but they seem to get kinda unreliable after going low too many times

Unless you load test the battery, you are just guessing. The problem could be
with a faulty starter motor, cables, connections, etc.

If the truck is idle for periods of time, connect a maintainer charger (($20 +/-)

Make sure you are working with a reliable battery.

If you are a Costco member, that is your best source for a battery - both cost and performance.
Costco only carries the Interstate battery (made by Johnson Controls). Best price.
Costco does not install batteries, but provides a core charge for your old battery.

I just replaced a battery in the navigator that exhibited the same symptoms as yours. I had it load tested and while it passed it was showing 534cca. It was only 4 years old but it was one that sat for a bit between uses by previous owner so I'm guessing it was just wearing out. I had to jump it 3 times within a couple days. Despite letting it run for about a half an hour each time and then driving around awhile. The last time I put it put it on a charger at 2amp and left for almost 24hrs, was just a little shy and it started once. I keyed off, tried again and that was it so I knew it was time. Battery voltage has dropped to only 11.15V after that first maybe 1 second long crank. It would barely actuate the door locks afterward, I'm guessing there was a cell on its last leg.

I went to costco picked up a group 65 that has 1000cca and 850@0 degrees for $99 and has a 36month replacement warranty. Power liftgate operates smoother than it did, vehicle fires up great and havent had any issues of any kind since replacement.

I've had my truck since 2009 bought with 34k on the clock now at 291k and have gone through 4 to 5 batteries from different high-end brands. For the most part, my experience has been they give no warning starts fine one day clicking the next and I just needed to replace the battery. I did have one battery that did give me a few day's notice but that was only because one cell went bad.

If your terminal is getting hot there is some resistance between the battery post and the terminal on the post(loose bolt, oxidation, etc) OR between the terminal and the wire (bad crimp, oxidation, etc. Either of these could also prevent the alternator from fully charging the battery and eventually cause battery to fail.
Have you taken your Expy to a PEP Boys, Autozone or Discount Auto to have them test it?

Yes sir, there was corrosion on the extension plate/tab from the positive post to the fuse cluster harness, not alot but enough to seperate the connection. In addition, there was a cluster of oxidation on the starter connection which was evidently from a bad battery that I replaced...THANKS for you info..lucky to have figured this out Sunday evening.

to eliminate corrosion, spray a coating of lithium grease onto the battery terminals and connections. You will never have corrosion issues ever again.
